The PTSD Workbook

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is an extremely debilitating anxiety condition that can occur after exposure to a terrifying event or ordeal. Although many know that this mental health issue affects veterans of war, many may not know that it also affects victims of domestic violence, sexual violence, natural disasters, crime, car accidents and accidents in the workplace. No matter the cause of their illness, people with PTSD will often relive their traumatic experience in the form of flashbacks, memories, nightmares, and frightening thoughts. This is especially true when they are exposed to events or objects that remind them of their trauma. Left untreated, PTSD can lead to emotional numbness, insomnia, addiction, anxiety, depression, and even suicide. In The PTSD Workbook, Second Edition, psychologists and trauma experts Mary Beth Williams and Soili Poijula outline techniques and interventions used by PTSD experts from around the world to offer trauma survivors the most effective tools available to conquer their most distressing trauma-related symptoms, whether they are a veteran, a rape survivor, or a crime victim. Based in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), the book is extremely accessible and easy-to-use, offering evidence-based therapy at a low cost. This new edition features chapters focusing on veterans with PTSD, the link between cortisol and adrenaline and its role in PTSD and overall mental health, and the mind-body component of PTSD. This book is designed to arm PTSD survivors with the emotional resilience they need to get their lives back together after a traumatic event.

Anxiety Help: How To Stop Anxiety and Agoraphobia (for REAL)

Hey guys. This video is one that I’ve wanted to share for a while in hopes of helping others who may be going through some tough times with anxiety, panic disorders, or depression. It took me a while to get around to filming this because I didn’t want to share such personal problems on here, and I didn’t want to seem like I was jumping on some trendy anxiety train (seriously, I recently read somewhere that sharing mental illness stories was “trendy”….*eyeroll*). I decided to share this anyways because this is a VERY REAL problem with not a lot of true success stories to relate to. And if you’re anything like I was, you need someone to relate to during tough times.Anxiety and agoraphobia had been a big part of my daily life for about 7 years. It started off being something I could manage but as time went on, my mental state became increasingly worse to the point of not leaving my house for weeks at a time. My mind was taking a physical toll on my body and I just wanted it to end.I struggled every day with feelings of panic and a mind that just wouldn’t shut up. I wanted to share with you what worked for me as well as what didn’t… because the absolute worst thing was feeling like I was alone in this and that there was no hope at all for recovery. Now that I know that to be false, I don’t want anyone to ever feel the way I felt, so I tried to cover as much as I could in this video about my story and how you can take the same steps I did to overcome your own anxiety issues. If you have any questions or stories of your own, feel free to comment below.xoxVisit Me: —————————————————————————-My Blog: http://www.thewonderforest.com Instagram: http://www.instagram.com/wonderforest Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/wonderforest Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/thewonderforest Design Shop: http://www.envye.comLOVE YOU!!! *Some links included in this description, such as Amazon links to products, may be affiliate links.

Beyond Blue

Therese Borchard may be one of the frankest, funniest people on the planet. That, combined with her keen writing abilities has made her Beliefnet blog, Beyond Blue, one of the most trafficked blogs on the site. BEYOND BLUE, the book, is part memoir/part self-help. It describes Borchard’s experience of living with manic depression as well as providing cutting-edge research and information on dealing with mood disorders. By exposing her vulnerability, she endears herself immediately to the reader and then reduces even the most depressed to laughter as she provides a companion on the journey to recovery and the knowledge that the reader is not alone. Comprised of four sections and twenty-one chapters, BEYOND BLUE covers a wide range of topics from codependency to addiction, poor body image to postpartum depression, from alternative medicine to psychopharmacology, managing anxiety to applying lessons from therapy. Because of her laser wit and Erma Bombeck sense of humor, every chapter is entertaining as well as serious.
