10% Happier

#1 New York Times Bestseller Winner of the 2014 Living Now Book Award for Inspirational Memoir “An enormously smart, clear-eyed, brave-hearted, and quite personal look at the benefits of meditation.” —Elizabeth Gilbert Nightline anchor Dan Harrisembarks on an unexpected, hilarious, and deeply skeptical odyssey through the strange worlds of spirituality and self-help, and discovers a way to get happier that is truly achievable. After having a nationally televised panic attack, Dan Harris knew he had to make some changes. A lifelong nonbeliever, he found himself on a bizarre adventure involving a disgraced pastor, a mysterious self-help guru, and a gaggle of brain scientists. Eventually, Harris realized that the source of his problems was the very thing he always thought was his greatest asset: the incessant, insatiable voice in his head, which had propelled him through the ranks of a hypercompetitive business, but had also led him to make the profoundly stupid decisions that provoked his on-air freak-out. Finally, Harris stumbled upon an effective way to rein in that voice, something he always assumed to be either impossible or useless: meditation, a tool that research suggests can do everything from lower your blood pressure to essentially rewire your brain. 10% Happier takes readers on a ride from the outer reaches of neuroscience to the inner sanctum of network news to the bizarre fringes of America’s spiritual scene, and leaves them with a takeaway that could actually change their lives.

Handbook of Adolescent Health Psychology

Adolescence is a pivotal period of development with respect to health and illness. It is during adolescence that many positive health behaviors are consolidated and important health risk behaviors are first evident; thus, adolescence is a logical time period for primary prevention. In addition, the predominant causes of morbidity and mortality in adolescence are quite different from those of adults, indicating that early identification and treatment of adolescent health problems must be directed to a unique set of targets in this age group. Moreover, because of the particular developmental issues that characterize adolescence, intervention efforts designed for adults are often inappropriate or ineffective in an adolescent population. Even when chronic illnesses are congenital or begin in childhood, the manner in which the transition from childhood to adolescence to young adulthood is negotiated has important implications for disease outcomes throughout the remainder of the person’s life span. Organized in five major sections (General Issues, Developmental Issues, Treatment and Training, Mental Health, and Physical Health) and 44 chapters, Handbook of Adolescent Health Psychology addresses the common and not so common health issues that tend to affect adolescents. Coverage includes: ▪ Context and perspectives in adolescent health psychology ▪ Health literacy, health maintenance, and disease prevention in adolescence ▪ Physical disorders such as asthma, obesity, physical injury, and chronic pain ▪ Psychological disorders such as substance abuse, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, depression, and eating disorders ▪ Congenital chronic diseases such as type 1 diabetes and spina bifida Handbook of Adolescent Health Psychology is the definitive reference for pediatricians, family physicians, health psychologists, clinical social workers, rehabilitation specialists, and all practitioners and researchers working with adolescents.

I play, compose and record mostly calm and peaceful tunes and started sharing these here on YouTube in 2011.Music can be much more than just pure entertainment. It can be a meaningful soundtrack that accompanies us through a moment, through a day, a phase, or through life. Many use my recordings and piano music sessions as background music while reading, doing mind work, to achieve better focus, while studying, while being creative, while coding or designing a product, a service or the world of tomorrow. From your comments I know that my music also works as relaxing music, spa or yoga music, or to set a calm tone at cafes, bars, lounges, in hotels and restaurants, mostly at a low volume. This project is not as much about a genre as it is about a feeling. A way of life. With my tunes, I try to take a little heat and speed from our generally quite busy lives. A soundtrack for you, when you feel the need for a calm and peaceful, light and positive tune, the relaxdaily way.Thank you for following, liking, sharing, commenting on and supporting the relaxdaily project!– Michael a.k.a. relaxdaily© music & video (2019): relaxdaily | relaxdaily.net …you are wonderful!

Textbook of Anxiety Disorders

Acclaimed as “a tremendous contribution to the field of psychiatry” (Doody’s Health Science Book Review Journal), the Textbook of Anxiety Disorders is now available in an expanded second edition. The new edition continues to offer both clinicians and researchers a single-volume resource that covers not only progress in clinical interventions but also the latest advances in theoretical knowledge. Following a comprehensive overview of anxiety disorders, the book provides detailed coverage of seven specific DSM-IV-TR diagnoses: generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), mixed anxiety-depression, panic disorder, social phobia, specific phobias, and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Each section covers the latest thinking on symptomatology and pathogenesis, then provides evidence-based clinical recommendations for pharmacotherapy and psychotherapy. All chapters have been expanded and fully updated with new research findings. Many chapters have been entirely rewritten by new authors to provide fresh insight into such topics as integrated treatment of anxiety disorders; pharmacotherapy for GAD, OCD, and panic disorder; psychotherapy for OCD and PTSD; anxiety disorders in the elderly; anxiety accompanying substance abuse; and the economic and social costs of anxiety. In addition, new chapters on anxious traits and temperaments, the neuropsychology of anxiety disorders, and anxiety and insomnia enhance this comprehensive edition. Each chapter now includes a concise summary of key clinical points that helps readers put findings into practice — as well as recommended readings that provide access to essential reports. Standing at the cutting edge of anxiety disorder research and clinical practice, this authoritative volume deserves a place on the reference shelf of any busy clinician, researcher, or educator. It will be invaluable to all mental health care professionals interested in the latest developments in understanding and treating these complex and costly disorders.
