Lord, let the Holy Ghost come on down. We need him, Lord, send him on down. We sing other, similar songs, pleading with the Holy Ghost to come down. But the truth is, the Holy Spirit is already here. He came down from heaven at the Upper Room at Pentecost. And he never left! Jesus promised, “I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you” (John 14:16–17). Consider a phrase Jesus uses here: “But you know him.” Recently, as I read those words for my study in preparing this message, I could not shake them off. I realized I really don’t know much about the Holy Spirit. The church talks a lot about the Spirit. We teach a doctrine of the Holy Spirit. We talk about being filled with the Spirit, walking and living in the Spirit, having the gifts of the Spirit, receiving the comfort of the Spirit. Yet it’s possible to know all the doctrines of the Holy Spirit and still not know him. If I were to ask you, “Have you received the Holy Spirit?” how would you answer? Some might say, “Yes, I received the Spirit when Jesus saved me. It was the Holy Spirit that brought me into Christ’s kingdom.” Others would answer, “Yes, I have received the Spirit, because I spoke with tongues when he came into my life. I pray in the Spirit, and tongues are an evidence that I have received him.” However, to receive the Spirit is more than a one-time experience. The word “receive” means “lay hold of that which is given.” In short, receiving is to desire an expanding capacity for greater knowledge of who the Spirit is and what his ministry is about. In fact, the Holy Spirit is not received by someone until he is allowed to take full control of that person’s temple. Paul asked the Galatians, “How did you receive the Spirit? Did you not receive him by faith?” He then declares, “You stated by faith that what you know of the Spirit you received by faith. So, has there been a continued ‘ministry of the Spirit’ to you by faith? Are you exercising faith to go deeper in the Spirit?”About David Wilkerson David Wilkerson was the Founding Pastor of Times Square Church in New York City. Zac Poonen – Pride is More Dangerous than Adultery

#Zac #Poonen – #Pride is More #Dangerous than #AdulteryIn Obadiah Chapter 1, Obadiah spoke about God’s judgment on Edom. Edom is a type of our flesh. So this prophecy symbolises the destruction of the flesh. It speaks here about the pride of Edom. “You are proud because you live in those high, inaccessible cliffs. `Who can ever reach us way up here!’ you boast. Don’t fool yourselves! Though you soar as high as eagles, and build your nest among the stars, I will bring you plummeting down, says the Lord.” (v.3,4).The flesh always seeks to exalt itself. But God is determined to destroy that pride completely. If thieves came at night and robbed you they would not take everything. But here, “every nook and cranny will be searched and robbed, and every treasure found and taken” (v.6). The application of this for us is that every little corner that is called “flesh” in us, every lust of the flesh, will be totally destroyed and overcome by the power of the Spirit.Edom was being punished because of the violence that they did to their close relatives, Israel, because in the time of Israel’s greatest need, when they were being taken captive, they “deserted Israel in their time of need and stood aloof, refusing to lift a finger to help them when invaders carried off their wealth” (v.10,11). They had acted as if they too were Israel’s enemies. Edom did nothing to help Israel. There are sins of commission as well as sins of omission. Often when we think of sin, we think only of the sins that have been committed. Notice, in the story of the Good Samaritan, that the priest and Levite did not commit any sin. They did not beat up the wounded man. Their sin was that they did not lift a finger to help that needy man. Do we realise that not helping a needy person is a sin? That is a sin of omission. Edom did NOT do what they should have done – and the Lord took it seriously. Edom’s second sin was that they gloated over Israel’s capture (v.12). When something bad happens to somebody you don’t like, do you feel happy? That is sin. We are not to rejoice over someone else’s misfortune. But that was not all. Edom attacked those helpless Israelites and cut them down at the crossroads (v.14). They cooperated with Israel’s enemies. Finally, the Lord spoke about the restoration of Israel. Almost all the prophets spoke about restoration. “Jerusalem will become a refuge for those who escape” one day (v.17). It will be a holy place. And the people of Israel will come back to reclaim their inheritance. At that time Israel will become a flaming fire for the Lord, and Edom a field of dry stubble. “Deliverers will come to Jerusalem and rule all Edom (the flesh). And the Lord shall be King!”(v.21). Today, God has called us to be those deliverers, proclaiming to God’s backslidden people, “Behold your King,” and inviting them to come back to Him.What was the cause of Edom’s fall? “The pride of your heart has deceived you” (v.3). When we are proud, we open ourselves to spiritual deception – because pride is the very nature of Satan, the deceiver. The moment you become proud of something – good looks, intelligence, spirituality, Bible knowledge, anything – immediately the devil holds your hand and says, “You and I are in fellowship now.” Jesus Christ, on the other hand, was the humblest Man that walked on earth; and the moment you humble yourself, you come into fellowship with Him.Pride is more dangerous than adultery because adultery is an outward sin – and sins that are outward and obvious are not as serious as sins that are hidden. Obadiah warns those who are complacent in their pride that they are deceived. Let us learn from his brief exhortation to be concerned about those around us, who are in captivity to their flesh, and to proclaim to them that Jesus can deliver them completely.© 2014 Christian Fellowship Church, Bangalore, India. Barely any preachers these days would even dare to preach on this subject but how sad that falls from the new testament normal of hell as a normal doctrine taught and discussed. Jesus spoke of hell more then heaven, listen carefully and know that there is a #eternal hell. This message is a very vivid and powerful description of the nature of hell. David describes the physical #sufferings of the sensation of burning for eternity. He also delves into the mental sufferings due to the conscience replaying every lost opportunity that the sinner had to receive #Christ while #alive. There is also a description of the spiritual sufferings of the sense of drifting further and further from God for eternity. David speaks of the sad truth that most of mankind will be going to hell and that most church parishioners are also going to hell because they are not truly saved and are not really following Jesus with their lives. This message is a very powerful and shocking wake up call to anyone who has not yet made a true decision to follow Christ. It’s also a powerful reminder of how much we must labor to help as many people as possible to be saved and avoid a dreadful eternity in hell.About David Wilkerson David Wilkerson was the Founding Pastor of Times Square Church in New York City. Zac Poonen – How to recognize God’s voice?

The Importance Of Hearing God’s Word – Zac Poonen The overwhelming necessity of spending time each day with God’s Word is implied clearly in the words of Jesus to Martha in Luke 10: 38-42. Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things: But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.” How striking are Jesus’ words to Martha in verse 42: “One thing is needful!” There may be plenty of good things to be done and many indeed that may justly be considered essential. But, Jesus affirmed, one thing above all others was needful. What was that one thing? There are many other things which may help us and which may prove useful, but this one thing above all others is absolutely essential. We can no more do without it than our physical bodies can do without oxygen. It is quite indispensable. The supreme essential for our spirits is indeed just this- to sit at the Lord’s feet daily to hear His Word. The Lord Jesus knew, better than anyone else, all the factors that affect a man’s life. He knew every possible situation that any man could ever find himself in. He knew the dangers that lay ahead of every man and He knew all the wiles of Satan. He knew what was necessary for man’s spiritual growth, for He alone knew the relative importance and unimportance of things. Knowing all this, He said that one thing was needful above all else. He used similar words in Luke 4:4. “Man shall not live by bread alone but by every word of God.” This is a quotation from Deuteronomy 8:3, where reference is made to the manna with which God fed the Israelites for 40 years in the wilderness. The Israelites were told there that God’s purpose in giving them the manna daily from heaven was that they might, in like manner, learn to receive God’s Word. If they were to be strengthened for their wilderness journey those Israelites needed the manna daily. Even so does man require to receive the Word of God daily, if he is to be empowered to face the trials and vicissitudes of life. Jesus never made these statements lightly. He was seeking to impress upon His disciples the absolute necessity of hearing His Word daily. If that is true, then it follows that a life that is lived without time given to meditation on God’s written Word is a wasted life, no matter what else it may have achieved. In Luke 17:26-30, Jesus tells us that the last days will be like the days of Noah and of Lot, in which people ate, drank, bought, sold, planted, built, and so on. Have you noticed that none of these things are sinful in themselves? They are all legitimate activities. Why then did Jesus mention them as being peculiarly characteristic of those sinful days? Because the people of those days were so occupied with these legitimate activities as to have no time for God at all. The Devil succeeded in getting them to crowd God out of their lives altogether. This of course resulted, as it always will, in moral decay and corruption. …… If we are to be effective witnesses for our Lord, it is imperative that we can spend time each day at His feet listening to His voice. There are many today who are ambitious to preach, who have never developed this habit of listening to God’s voice daily. The result is a sad paucity of “the word of the Lord” and a sickening abundance of man’s words. Of how very few of today’s preachers can it be said that” the word of the Lord is with him” (2 Kings 3:12). Yet this was the distinguishing mark of every true servant of God in the Bible. No man has the right to speak to other men about God, who has not first spent time listening to what God Himself says, and this refers to private witnessing as well as to public preaching. It is written of Moses that he went in before the Lord and then” came our and spake unto the children of Israel that which he was commanded” (Exod. 34:34). Joshua was told that his life would be a success only if he meditated on God’s Word daily (Josh. 1:8). Samuel is another classic example of one who patiently waited to hear God speak, and then spoke to the people. The result was that the Lord allowed no single word of his to fall to the ground (1 Sam. 3:19).…..Many Christians go through months and years of reading the Bible without seeking to hear God speaking to them through it. Still they seem to be quite satisfied. I ask you, Do you hear the Lord’s voice each day? If not, what is the cause? He speaks to those who listen. What is it that is stopping your spirit’s ears? Is it lack of stillness before Him, lack of humility of spirit, or lack of obedience to what He has already said to you? Or is it perhaps a lack of desire itself? Whatever it be, God grant that it may be remedied at once and permanently. Pray Samuel’s prayer, “Speak Lord, for thy servant heareth.” Then open your Bible and seek the face of the Lord earnestly, and you too shall hear His voice © 2014 Christian Fellowship Church, Bangalore, India. He gave his life for it, and said the gates of hell won’t prevail against it. Jesus himself is the foundation stone of this church. And Scripture tells us his glory and wisdom dwell in it. At Pentecost, he sent his Holy Spirit to establish the church. And he has gifted it with anointed servants — pastors, teachers, apostles, prophets and evangelists — for the purpose of building it up.It’s clear the Lord desires to bless his church. So, why does Revelation 2 present such a fearsome picture of Christ, when he appears to his people? John writes that Jesus comes to the church with flaming eyes and a thundering voice:“In the midst of the seven candlesticks one like unto the Son of man… His head and his hairs were white like wool, as white as snow: and his eyes were as a flame of fire; and his feet like unto fine brass, as if they burned in a furnace; and his voice as the sound of many waters. And he had in his right hand seven stars: and out of his mouth went a sharp two-edged sword” (Revelation 1:13-16).Now, Revelation is the summation of God’s Word. It describes the end of all things. And here is the first image of Christ we see in this book. Why does Jesus appear so foreboding here? And why does he speak so piercingly to his church? John writes that Christ’s words are as sharp as swords, cutting down to the marrow. Remember, this was the apostle who leaned his head on Jesus’ bosom. But now he finds himself on his face: “When I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead” (1:17).The Lord himself explains his awesome appearance: “All the churches shall know that I am he which searcheth the reins and hearts: and I will give unto every one of you according to your works” (2:23). The fact is, Christ loves his church. And that’s the very reason he comes to search it. He comes to correct his people in love, to purify them.First of all, Jesus tells John not to be afraid. “He laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the first and the last” (1:17). Then Christ says, in essence, “I want everyone in my church to know I’ve come to search their inner man. And I do it with eyes of fire and a thunder that shakes the soul. I won’t mince words — what I have to say will both pierce and heal. But I won’t allow any child of mine to continue in apathy or blindness. My eyes and mouth will pierce through every facade.”Christ saw something in his church. And he instructed John to write down his words and send them to the seven “angels” of the churches. This refers to his ministers, calling them the stars in his hands (see 1:16). He’s telling John, “I love these servants. I’ve called and anointed them.
