The Message Begins With A Revelation Of God’S Grief Over The Cause Of The Apostasy Before the antichrist is revealed, there will be a mystery of Lawlessness already at work. The one who is coming will appear after a furious activity of apostasy. Satan and all the powers of darkness will be setting the stage – destroying the faith of many. Because sin will be more rampant, the love of many of God’s people will grow very cold. There will be shipwrecked believers on all sides. God’s greatest concern is not what Christians are falling into – but what they are falling away from! Multitudes of Christians including pastors, deacons, ministry people of all kinds are losing their faith and confidence in the power of Jesus’ name! They are turning away from Christ as the answer to everything. They are falling away from a childlike faith in Him alone as the solution to all life’s problems. There is a wholesale turning toward methods, toward psychology, toward human expertise, toward the philosophies and doctrines of men. All the prophet’s foresaw this last great apostasy Isaiah was given a message from God that deals specifically with our day. He foretold what is happening right now; he warned about a last-day people who would “go back to Egypt” for help and who would reject the Lord as their source of supply. God made sure there would be no mistaking who this prophecy was directed to. He told Isaiah: “Now go, write it before them on a tablet, and note it in a book, that it may be for the time to come forever and ever? (Isaiah 30:8). The literal translation is, “That it may be for future generations, for the latter days.” The 30th chapter of Isaiah is God’s message to this latter day church. How very accurate and true it is! Even today their sermons remain burned in my memory: “The Bible says Christ will come like a thief in the night, when you least expect him. It will happen in the twinkling of an eye, with the sound of a trumpet. You must be ready at all times.” The powerful cry, “Jesus is coming!” is seldom heard in God’s house today. Very few Christians live with a sense of expectancy, looking and yearning for Jesus’ return. How has this happened? The New Testament gives many warnings that mockers will appear in the last days, ridiculing the doctrine of Christ’s coming. Peter writes, “There shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, and saying, Where is the promise of his coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation” (2 Peter 3:3-4). This mocking can be heard today: “What does anyone have to fear? All things continue just as they always have. There is no reason to fear a Judgment Day, because it simply isn’t coming.” The devil has whispered a different lie into the ears of many believers. That lie is, “Christ has delayed his coming.” Jesus addresses this in Matthew 24 in his parable about being ready for his return: “Be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh. Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his lord hath made ruler over his household, to give them meat in due season? Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing. Verily I say unto you, That he shall make him ruler over all his goods. “But and if that evil servant shall say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming; and shall begin to smite his fellow servants, and to eat and drink with the drunken; the lord of that servant shall come in a day when he looketh not for him, and in an hour that he is not aware of, and shall cut him asunder, and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth” (Matthew 24:45-51). Jesus is speaking here about believers, identifying them as servants. One of these servants is faithful while the other is evil. What makes the second servant evil in the Lord’s eyes? According to Jesus, it is something “he shall say in his heart” — that “the Lord delays his coming.” In other words, he’s convinced Jesus won’t come suddenly or unexpectedly. He has been instructed to “watch,” to “be ready,” “for the Son of man cometh at an hour when ye think not” (Luke 12:40). But instead this servant eases his conscience by believing Satan’s lie. Once he accepts the devil’s lie, here is the fruit: Because he sees no need to watch for Christ’s coming, he doesn’t see any need to make peace with his fellow servants. There is no need to preserve unity at home, at work, in the church, no need to make things right with others. Instead, he feels he could “smite his fellow servants,” accusing them, holding grudges and destroying others’ reputations. Walking in the spirit simply means you make no decisions until you hear from Him. We surrender our will and give complete control over to His government. The key to this walk is found in three words – JUST SAY YES- Say yes to all the promises of God and believe the Holy Spirit to accomplish this in and through you.

What is this mystery of God? In the New Testament, the word ‘mystery’ occurs a number of times. It means a secret which cannot be understood without God’s revelation. It is not a secret that cannot be understood at all, but one that only God can reveal. The mysteries mentioned in the New Testament can basically be summed up under two heads: (1) The mystery of godliness (1 Tim. 3:16); and (2) The mystery of iniquity (2 Thess. 2:7). The mystery of godliness is the truth. The mystery of iniquity is the lie. The “mystery of godliness” can be divided into three parts. (a) The first part of this mystery of godliness is mentioned in 1 Tim.3:16. In the previous verse, the church is called “the pillar and support of the truth” (v.15). Of which truth? The one mentioned in the next verse: “Great is the mystery of godliness; Christ was manifest in the flesh and was pure in the spirit, beheld by the angels, proclaimed among the nations.” The essential message here is that Jesus Christ came as a Man like us and was yet pure in His spirit. So we too need not sin. We can walk as He walked. (1 Jn.2:6). That is `the truth’. The church is to be a pillar upholding this truth! But unfortunately, the church through the ages has not held up this truth. (b) The second part of the mystery of godliness is mentioned in Eph.5:31, 32. 1 Tim. 3:16 referred to a great mystery. Here too we see a great mystery – the mystery of Christ and the church being one flesh. Jesus Christ has now got a bride (the church) – who also walks as He walked, keeping her spirit pure. (c) The third part of the mystery is mentioned in 1 Cor. 15:51,52, where we are told how we will be transformed into the likeness of Christ in the twinkling of an eye, when Jesus comes and the last trumpet sounds. Now we come to “the mystery of iniquity” (2 Thess.2:7)- which is basically that Satan also manifests himself in the flesh – finally as the Antichrist. In verses 9-11, we read of Satan working through the spirit of the antichrist with lying signs and wonders and the deception of wickedness to deceive people. We also read of God sending a deluding influence upon those who don’t receive the love of the truth so as to be saved – “so that they might all believe THE LIE” (v.11 – Literal). What is the lie referred to here? It is the lie that Satan told Eve in the garden of Eden: “You can sin and get away with it. God won’t punish you.” That is the greatest lie that Satan has deceived the world with. Even many believers believe that lie of Satan!! The mystery of iniquity is that this lie has worked and worked and drawn many into deception. This culminates in false Christendom giving Satan a bride – Babylon! She also is called a mystery in Rev.17:5, just as the church is called a mystery. The false church can be identified by this mark that it proclaims Satan’s lie that “you can sin and God will not take it seriously”. ….. #Zac #Poonen – #Pride is More #Dangerous than #Adultery In Obadiah Chapter 1, Obadiah spoke about God’s judgment on Edom. Edom is a type of our flesh. So this prophecy symbolises the destruction of the flesh. It speaks here about the pride of Edom. “You are proud because you live in those high, inaccessible cliffs. `Who can ever reach us way up here!’ you boast. Don’t fool yourselves! Though you soar as high as eagles, and build your nest among the stars, I will bring you plummeting down, says the Lord.” (v.3,4). The flesh always seeks to exalt itself. But God is determined to destroy that pride completely. If thieves came at night and robbed you they would not take everything. But here, “every nook and cranny will be searched and robbed, and every treasure found and taken” (v.6). The application of this for us is that every little corner that is called “flesh” in us, every lust of the flesh, will be totally destroyed and overcome by the power of the Spirit. Edom was being punished because of the violence that they did to their close relatives, Israel, because in the time of Israel’s greatest need, when they were being taken captive, they “deserted Israel in their time of need and stood aloof, refusing to lift a finger to help them when invaders carried off their wealth” (v.10,11). They had acted as if they too were Israel’s enemies. Edom did nothing to help Israel. There are sins of commission as well as sins of omission. Often when we think of sin, we think only of the sins that have been committed. Notice, in the story of the Good Samaritan, that the priest and Levite did not commit any sin. They did not beat up the wounded man. Their sin was that they did not lift a finger to help that needy man. Do we realise that not helping a needy person is a sin? That is a sin of omission. Edom did NOT do what they should have done – and the Lord took it seriously. Edom’s second sin was that they gloated over Israel’s capture (v.12). When something bad happens to somebody you don’t like, do you feel happy? That is sin. We are not to rejoice over someone else’s misfortune. But that was not all. Edom attacked those helpless Israelites and cut them down at the crossroads (v.14). They cooperated with Israel’s enemies. Finally, the Lord spoke about the restoration of Israel. Almost all the prophets spoke about restoration. “Jerusalem will become a refuge for those who escape” one day (v.17). It will be a holy place. And the people of Israel will come back to reclaim their inheritance. At that time Israel will become a flaming fire for the Lord, and Edom a field of dry stubble. “Deliverers will come to Jerusalem and rule all Edom (the flesh). And the Lord shall be King!”(v.21). Today, God has called us to be those deliverers, proclaiming to God’s backslidden people, “Behold your King,” and inviting them to come back to Him. What was the cause of Edom’s fall? “The pride of your heart has deceived you” (v.3). When we are proud, we open ourselves to spiritual deception – because pride is the very nature of Satan, the deceiver. The moment you become proud of something – good looks, intelligence, spirituality, Bible knowledge, anything – immediately the devil holds your hand and says, “You and I are in fellowship now.” Jesus Christ, on the other hand, was the humblest Man that walked on earth; and the moment you humble yourself, you come into fellowship with Him. Pride is more dangerous than adultery because adultery is an outward sin – and sins that are outward and obvious are not as serious as sins that are hidden. Obadiah warns those who are complacent in their pride that they are deceived. Let us learn from his brief exhortation to be concerned about those around us, who are in captivity to their flesh, and to proclaim to them that Jesus can deliver them completely. © 2014 Christian Fellowship Church, Bangalore, India.
