Everything You Thought You Knew About Paris Is Wrong. It Used To Be Downright CREEPY.

Paris, France, is one of the most famous major cities in the world. It is full of history, beautiful architecture and culture. So many artists, writers and musicians have spent time in Paris over the years. The city on the Seine River has over 12 million inhabitants and tourists from all over the world flock to it… But most people don’t realize it used to be kind of a freak show. Paris has a je ne sais quoi about it, but that’s most likely because of its past. Paris in the 1800s had a wild nightlife, a popular red light district and was basically the place you went to party (among other things, of course).

“The Cabaret de l’Enfer” (The Cabaret of Hell), next to the “Cabaret du Ciel” (The Cabaret of Heaven).

The inside of the hellish cabaret didn’t disappoint.

You would have to be brave to enter this club at night.

Crevices in the walls of this room ran with streams of molten gold and silver, and here and there were caverns lit up by smouldering fires from which thick smoke issued, and vapors emitting the odors of a volcano.

Flames would suddenly burst from clefts in the rocks, and thunder rolled through the caverns. Red imps were everywhere, darting about noiselessly, some carrying beverages for the thirsty lost souls, others stirring the fires or turning somersaults. Everything was in a high state of motion.

During this time period, these kinds of clubs were highly popular.

It was a mixture of drinking, cabaret, magic and fun unlike you’ve seen before.

And it makes modern-day clubs seem a little boring.

(H/T Reddit) The City of Light was a lot weirder than you probably thought. After all, when you think of Paris, you should think of la fée verte, absinthe. The highly intoxicating drink was a favorite among artistic Parisians… and now you know, they could get a little wild. Share this unique historic perspective with others. I bet they didn’t know this, either.

These Simple, Everyday Objects Are Hiding A Deadly Past You’d Never Expect.

Certain everyday objects have more meaning than others for photographer Ed James. His latest project, “Murder Weapons,” is an exploration of just that. For this series, James photographed 10 ordinary objects that were each used in horrifying murders.

As you might imagine, the point of the series is to unsettle viewers. Here’s how James describes it: “I wanted each item to be unusually lit and out of context to mirror the way that the killers used them.” Check out the full series of 10 images below.

I’m not sure how he did it, but James certainly managed to make these objects terrifying. Especially that spatula…so freaky. You can find more pictures from Ed James on his website and Facebook.

Step Inside Any Of These 25 Places… If You Have The Guts. They’re Fascinating Nightmares.

Each day we are distracted by our own lives, too busy to notice what is going on around us. However, most people aren’t disturbed by the chaos. Instead, we only feel fear when there is utter, terrible silence. Stillness is unnerving, not chaos. That’s probably why abandoned buildings, former hotspots of humanity, are so intriguing. It’s addictive to think about the lives that passed through these doors, only to eventually move on and forget.

1.) Reflections at an abandoned institution.

2.) A bus being silently overcome by Mother Nature.

3.) This quiet old mill, nestled in the Bavarian Forest in Germany.

4.) Sand dunes that have overtaken houses in Southern Namibia, Africa.

5.) A cold and desolate mine in Wales.

6.) Santa Maria della Pietà, Abruzzo Italy.

7.) A chilling ghost town in Megargel, Texas.

8.) A fairy door, tucked away in Calcata, Italy.

9.) The stern and haunting School for Girls in New York.

10.) The abandoned Chamber of Commerce in Belgium.

11.) The beautiful and isolated Bokor Mountain church in Cambodia.

12.) This abandoned steel mill control room from Detroit, Michigan.

13.) The majestic Kilchurn castle in Loch Awe, Scotland.

14.) An abandoned Chevrolet truck, abandoned in the middle of a forest.

15.) St. Bonaventure Church in Philadelphia.

16.) This swiftly abandoned beach volleyball arena from the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Greece.

17.) A beautiful stained glass window in Belgium, made more beautiful when humans left.

18.) An abandoned power plant’s control room.

19.) The eerie Buzludzha monument in Bulgaria, at the Balkan Mountains.

20.) Hotel Del Salto in San Antonio del Tequendama, Colombia.

21.) The Dunlewy Church ruins, overlooking the Poisoned Glen in Ireland.

22.) This bright, but strange, abandoned yellow house in Nova Scotia.

23.) A rusting schoolhouse, sitting abandoned in the countryside.

24.) The overgrown Nupstadur Farm in Iceland.

25.) An old Graphotype machine found in an abandoned hospital in California.

Life will pass all of us by in just a blink, but the legacies we build on this earth will stay behind us as a monument to our lives. That’s what each of these images are, a testament to what life used to be like for others. It’s something we can only dream about. You Don’t Want To Be Out On This Lake Right Now If You Can Help It

Waterspouts can be pretty dangerous things if you happen to be out on the water when one forms. Luckily, they are rarities in most places. However, Qinghai Lake in China’s Qinghai Province is not most places.
googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display(‘VN_PG_DCBP_ATF’); });

Earlier this week, tourists spotted not just one, but three waterspouts forming simultaneously on the surface of the lake.

“Water tornados,” as some call them, are formed by a convection current of warm and cold air over a body of water.

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=27WnVJzJoKM?autoplay=0]

While three waterspouts might seem insane, it’s not actually the most that Qinghai Lake has seen.

Back in 2014, onlookers saw nine simultaneous waterspouts spring up on a particularly stormy day. That’s pure nightmare fuel, folks.

And they’re not all that uncommon elsewhere, either.

googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display(‘VN_PG_DCBM_BTF’); });

These were spotted near a beach in the Netherlands.

I would not want to be out waterskiing during this one in Florida.

Have you ever been on the water during one of these?

Imagine Going To Get The Mail Only To Find That Spiders Have Take Over The Mailbox

For most of us, coming across a nest of huge spiders would basically be a nightmare.

Though I think they are fascinating creatures, there’s no way I’d be okay with them living inside something that I regularly use. However, one woman couldn’t be happier about all the spiders that are currently chillin’ inside her mailbox.

When Natasha Joyce from Victoria, Australia, recently found a female huntsman spider in the box, she decided to let her — and all of her eggs — stay in there. After a few weeks, she was strangely overjoyed to find hundreds of baby spiders making themselves right at home.

Even the neighborhood kids were excited about all her new little nopes.

Huntsman spiders aren’t actually all that dangerous to humans, but their bites can be very painful. Plus, they get pretty aggressive when it comes to protecting their young.

Though most of the babies won’t survive, it definitely has to be unsettling to have that many in one spot.

We Post A Lot Of Abandoned Places. But What’s Inside This House Might Be The Best One Yet.

While on a Valentine’s Day road trip, this Reddit user stumbled across a hidden treasure of sorts. Far back from the highway stood a small abandoned house. The only thing nearby were fields, so the little cabin looked lonely… but beautiful. So they decided to wander inside (and we’re so glad they did).

The house was extremely isolated and looked as if no one had been inside for years.

Inside of the house, there were lots of books focused on language (dictionaries, grammar & phonetics).

A bucket with beans spilling out.

Vines were slowly taking over the entire house, creeping in from the windows and winding themselves down the drapes.

One nearly made it’s way over to an old lace shawl or dress.

A tiny straw tiger was found in the corner, a beautiful remnant of childhood.

The creepy doll’s head with no eyes? Not so much.

A long boot…

Measurement guides and recipes lined the walls.

This, at one time, used to be a quaint farm house with a pet.

There were lots of these trophies inside, too. Someone had a penchant for darts.

The simple, but beautiful, view from the kitchen window.

The drapes were so tattered, but even they were oddly beautiful.

There was only one spot of graffiti in the house, thankfully it didn’t take away from the eerie beauty too much.

Vines creeped in from all angles.

And a final message, who knows when this was left.

There are many different kinds of beauty in the world, and a decaying house full of memories and remnants of times past? Some may say that it’s very beautiful. Source: Reddit Share this unique place with others, whether you like it yourself or not. It is interesting, after all.

An Intruder Just Broke Into Their House And Watched Them Sleep For Over 10 Minutes

Are you paranoid about making sure that your windows and doors are securely locked at all times to prevent unwelcome strangers? Well, if you’re not already, you will be after you watch this video. It’s from a surveillance camera inside the Chicago home of Jordan Buranskas and her boyfriend, Jack Mackercher.

The footage shows a creepy man in a white hoodie standing at the top of the stairs, watching the couple while they slept on the couch. To say it’s unsettling would be an understatement.

He’s the ultimate creep.

(via Elite Daily)

The scariest part is that they only noticed this guy while reviewing the footage trying to figure out where Jordan’s purse went (which he did, in fact, steal). If he hadn’t taken anything, they would never have known that he was there.

These Bizarre Atlases Beautifully Map Out The World’s Darkness

When it comes to tracking down engaging reading material, atlases typically don’t make the cut.

Designed with functionality in mind, these works are more likely to familiarize you with the topography of Yellowstone National Park than they are to stir up deeply unsettling feelings about the world around you — until now, that is.

Olivier Le Carrer’s “Atlas of Cursed Places” and Aude de Tocqueville’s “Atlas of Lost Cities” — both published by Hachette Book Group — effectively turn the form on its head. By rejecting the conventions of the typical atlas, they provide readers with glimpses into some of the darkest places on Earth. Those insights are at once practical and chilling.

Le Carrer’s “Atlas of Cursed Places” — a New York Times best seller — takes readers on guided tours through cities around the world that are marred with the scars of devastation and chaos.

The author focuses on plagued locations that fall into one or more of these three categories: those with ties to a mystical order, those that are rendered uninhabitable by human interference, and those that are hotbeds of paranormal activity.

Vintage maps make the page-turning experience as beautiful as it is haunting.

From villages that are buried by sand each year to homes with histories that are almost too horrific to imagine, this atlas is filled to the brim with oft-forgotten locales.

var OX_ads = OX_ads || []; OX_ads.push({ slot_id: “537251602_570475a08ca36”, auid: “537251602” });

The book forces us to confront the corners of the Earth that make us uncomfortable — the ones that we’d much rather send back into the recesses of our minds.

But it’s that exact feeling that sends it flying off the shelves. We’re fascinated by darkness, and this atlas serves as a vehicle that deftly steers us straight into the abyss.

And its new sister, Aude de Tocqueville’s “Atlas of Lost Cities,” taps into that flair for obscurity from an equally engaging angle.

From the doomed city of Pompeii to the tourist town of Epecuen that was swallowed by raging waters, the author leaves no stone unturned as she explores the rise and fall of ill-fated territories all over the world.

By highlighting the mortality of these cities, Aude de Tocqueville gives us an opportunity to consider the course of human history from an intriguing new vantage point — one that factors in the Earth’s role in dismantling what mankind worked so hard to create.

“Atlas of Lost Cities” goes on sale today, so be sure to pick up a copy for yourself on Amazon. If you’re fascinated by the world’s untold stories, it’s a purchase you certainly won’t regret.

You can also pick up Olivier Le Carrer’s “Atlas of Cursed Places” here. To learn more about what Hachette Book Group has to offer, be sure to visit their website and follow them on Facebook.

15 Of The Creepiest Neighbors Around — And You Thought Yours Were Bad!

When I was in college, I had a really creepy neighbor. I told my friends that if I turned up dead or missing, police should start their investigation at his front door.

He had long, greasy hair and dirty fingernails, but the spookiest thing about him was that he never seemed to sleep. At all hours of the day and night, I could hear him moving around in his apartment, which was right above mine.

However, when it comes to creepy neighbors, I know I’m not alone. The following are 15 of the creepiest neighbors that Redditors have had to deal with — and you thought yours were bad!

1. “My neighbor stares at me from her window every day when I get home from work.”

2. Is that a zombie?

3. This would be the last place I’d go for a cup of sugar.

googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display(‘VN_PG_DCI1_BTF’); });

4. She knows we can see her, right?

5. I’m glad to know that Michael Myers finally settled down.

6. “Honey, the ghost children are loose again!”

googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display(‘VN_PG_DCI2_BTF’); });

7. This is unacceptable neighbor behavior.
