‘Ew, ick!’ Spotlighting motherhood makes NYT correspondent say ‘ugh’

http://twitter.com/#!/FuriousDShow/status/519984184740569088

Is there a more insulting role than “mom”? According to New York Times correspondent Julie Bosman, you’d be hard-pressed to find one:

SMH. New York Times Correspondent says "Ugh" to review of best selling author calling her a "Mom." https://t.co/k4SlS24eVn

— Kathleen McKinley (@KatMcKinley) October 8, 2014

Let’s have a look:

Wrote a critically acclaimed, bestselling book and a hit screenplay? Still a "mom" first, says @peoplemag. #ugh pic.twitter.com/VPpcDDsp3u

— Julie Bosman (@juliebosman) October 8, 2014

Ewww! “Mom” is such an icky word!

@juliebosman WOOOOOOOOOWWOWOW

— Amy Schellenbaum (@acsbaum) October 8, 2014

@juliebosman @peoplemag You’ve GOT to be kidding me.

— Kristi Luther (@KALuther) October 8, 2014

@juliebosman @LianaBrooks @peoplemag You seem surprised that we're defined by the function of our uteri : P

— Cathy Pegau (@CathyPegau) October 8, 2014

@juliebosman @peoplemag Because biology is destiny? Because reproductive status is all that makes women interesting or valuable? Meh.

— Mary Margaret (@MaryMeg) October 8, 2014

@juliebosman @peoplemag Ick! Do "they" ever mention Dad status for a male writer? Hemingway first and foremost a "dad?" Nope.

— Mara Buck (@mara_buck) October 8, 2014

@juliebosman I'm so sorry. The more accomplished a woman, the more pejorative the patriarchy @peoplemag @younglibrarian

— Keira Soleore (@KeiraSoleore) October 8, 2014

@mattdpearce @juliebosman @peoplemag woof

— Scott Heins (@scottheins) October 8, 2014

Yeah, woof. And, well, don’t even get Julie started on mothers-to-be:

On the same page: @peoplemag story about Rosamund Pike focuses on fact that she's pregnant. Why? pic.twitter.com/0o181SMETh

— Julie Bosman (@juliebosman) October 8, 2014

Because patriarchy. DUH.

I long for the days when women's magazines assigned profiles of writers just because their work was interesting.

— Julie Bosman (@juliebosman) October 8, 2014

With all due respect, Julie, give it a rest already. What’s wrong with a woman embracing motherhood as part of her identity? What’s wrong with respecting that?

Ew, ick! How dare they say "MOM." It's not like it's the most important job in the world or anything.

— Kathleen McKinley (@KatMcKinley) October 8, 2014

.@juliebosman @peoplemag Maybe she sees her job as a Mom as the most important? Some of us do, you know. #UghToYou

— Kathleen McKinley (@KatMcKinley) October 8, 2014

.@KatMcKinley @juliebosman @peoplemag I remember when we all honored moms. What happened?

Actress Kristen Bell thinks rich people like her ‘SHOULD pay higher taxes’

http://twitter.com/#!/mikeyrh82/status/446383723265527808

You love it? Oh, that’s good. Because that’s what “Veronica Mars” and “Frozen” star Kristen Bell did today.

Bell linked to a Salon article about the RNC’s new ad campaign featuring a Republican millennial. Naturally, she managed to tie that into an argument for higher tax rates for the wealthy:

http://twitter.com/#!/IMKristenBell/status/446372492945281024

Isn’t that special?

http://twitter.com/#!/Roebucker/status/446376383430676480 http://twitter.com/#!/JeffWoodsDC/status/446383268892790784

Yep.

Here’s a good question:

http://twitter.com/#!/mistersideshow/status/446372999403302912

Bell’s response:

http://twitter.com/#!/IMKristenBell/status/446374311327055872

Yeah, she totally gets it.

Another good point:

http://twitter.com/#!/_LeifDanielle/status/446373545707589632

Quiet, Leigh. You’re not an expert like Kristen:

http://twitter.com/#!/IMKristenBell/status/446375105371705344 http://twitter.com/#!/IMKristenBell/status/446375440026828800

Why should it be up to the government to decide how much money someone should be allowed to have?

http://twitter.com/#!/IMKristenBell/status/446376873757405184

Fair enough. We don’t know you, either. But if you care so much and think government is the answer, what’s stopping you from giving the IRS more of your money?

‘Tone-deaf and sad’: John Kerry addresses Iraq ‘crisis’ at last, royally blows it

http://twitter.com/#!/senatorshoshana/status/478902219744354304

Because priorities!

As Twitchy reported, this morning, Secretary of State John Kerry and Bill Nye the Not-a-Real-Science Guy teamed up for a Twitter forum about the ocean. That’s right. The ocean. Tweeters couldn’t help but wonder why Kerry would be futzing around with fish when Iraq is crumbling before our eyes.

Well, not to worry. Today, Kerry finally addressed the elephant seal in the room, thanks to a deep question from Nye:

http://twitter.com/#!/TheScienceGuy/status/478900525522374656

Wait … what?

http://twitter.com/#!/redsteeze/status/478902117206196228

Surely a professional like Kerry wouldn’t dignify such stupidity with a response, right? Pffft. Of course he did!

http://twitter.com/#!/JohnKerry/status/478900942927306752

Dude. That’s it? That’s his answer?

To his credit, Kerry did retweet a question from an irate tweeter wondering why the heck the ocean ranks higher on the State Department’s to-do list than mass human slaughter:

http://twitter.com/#!/JohnKerry/status/478903393097097216

Unfortunately, because he’s John Kerry, his answer demonstrated about as much intelligence as a hunk of seaweed. And that’s being generous:

http://twitter.com/#!/JohnKerry/status/478903860065755136

Profound. John Kerry, ladies and gentlemen.

http://twitter.com/#!/ChrisBarnhart/status/478906496978132995

Oh man, @TheScienceGuy asks John Kerry if Iraq-Iran are aware of global warming? Tone deaf and sad. Stop this nonsense #oceanchat now.— Ryan N. Maue (@RyanMaue) June 17, 2014

‘Blinded by your ideology’: Man used as Wendy Davis’ prop should rethink support

http://twitter.com/#!/bradleybowen/status/521689799384920064

As Twitchy reported, Wendy Davis’s campaign recently turned a disabled man into blatant human prop-aganda:

Cringeworthy http://t.co/8I8mwFVHcj

— Lachlan Markay (@lachlan) October 13, 2014

Share photos on twitter with Twitpic

But that man, Lamar White Jr., is insisting that Wendy Davis’ motivations were only the purest:

I am a human being. Not a campaign prop. I volunteered to speak because @WendyDavisTexas is right.

— Lamar White, Jr (@CenLamar) October 13, 2014

You are a human being, Mr. White. And you deserve better than what Wendy Davis has given you.

.@GregAbbott_TX, I'm not a prop. You owe an apology and must denounce this slur and your campaign's retweets.

— Lamar White, Jr (@CenLamar) October 13, 2014

.@AndrewStilesUSA I am the disabled person you ridiculed on your website. I asked them to help me slide over b/c I'm not good on my feet.

— Lamar White, Jr (@CenLamar) October 13, 2014

Except Stiles didn’t ridicule White at all.

@CenLamar Ridiculed? Pointing out things as they actually occur which people can see isn't ridicule. Perhaps be specific. @AndrewStilesUSA

— elana (@elana13) October 13, 2014

From The Washington Free Beacon:

On Monday, Davis’s campaign organized a press conference in an effort to prove that some of her best friends are confined to wheelchairs. “Greg Abbott got his justice. Why doesn’t he believe that a rape survivor or a person with a disability or a victim paralyzed forever…should get justice too?” Davis said. “What makes Greg Abbott think it’s okay to deny them, his fellow Texans, the justice that he rightly went to court to receive?”

Stiles merely pointed out that Davis is trying to do major damage control after her horrible attack ad against Greg Davis — and that her latest efforts are only making her look even worse.

FYI, this is the gentleman who was literally dragged around the stage like a prop: pic.twitter.com/wQdUkOb6sT

— Cuffé (@CuffyMeh) October 13, 2014

With all due respect to Mr. White, Wendy Davis is not a scrupulous woman. Her intentions are purely selfish. And she’s proven that she has no qualms about trampling on humanity if it gets her ahead.

@CenLamar You're so blinded by your ideology that you either can't tell, or worse, willingly being used. @bradleybowen @WendyDavisTexas

— dcosta77 (@thedcosta77) October 13, 2014

@CenLamar So sorry you agreed to be used by @WendyDavisTexas. You deserve better.

— Scott Gaspar (@SWGaspar) October 13, 2014

@bradleybowen @WendyDavisTexas @CenLamar @GregAbbott_TX Wendy Davis' ship is sinking faster than the Titanic, she is shameless and classless

— #sickofDumbocrats (@Webbadman) October 13, 2014

Her ship is sinking, all right. But if White ever finds himself looking for Davis to throw him a life preserver, he’s barking up the wrong tree.

Surprising to see a disabled person sticking up for an Abortion supporter. Abortion is the number 1 threat to disability culture.

— Mav #Trigger (@TheMaverick21) October 13, 2014

Remember that, Mr. White.
