#70smusic #gordonlightfootI was so sad to hear of the passing of Gordon Lightfoot one of our most treasured singer-songwriters. He started in the 60s, ruled the 70s, and continued into the 80s. He had the #1 smash Sundown which is one of the 70s greatest songs… To honor him I wanted to share some key lyrics from 3 of his other most beloved songs that are worth pondering The first one is from his top 10 hit from 1974 Carefree Highway: “And the thing that I call living is just being satisfied With knowing I’ve got no one left to blame. Talk about being honest with yourself..”The second one is from his top 5 hit If You Could Read My Mind from 1970. He wrote it about his divorce..: he says when you reach the part where the heartache comes the hero would be me. But Heroes often fail, and you won’t read that book again because the ending’s just too hard to take. Heart-wrenching.and the last one is from his 1976 #2 hit the Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald. “Does Anyone Know where the Love of God Goes When the Waves Turn the Minutes to hours? It sends a shiver up my spine every time I hear it. Gordon Lightfoot’s songs are like Old Friends and will continue to get us through the best and worst of times. Rest easy sir.
