This Baby’s Life Was Saved Thanks To A Smartphone App.

Usually, when you see a smartphone involved in a life or death situation, it’s the cause of the problem — but this time it was the solution.At a dance shop in Spokane, WA, clerk Leslie Reckord was told an infant was unable to breathe and had started turning blue. A former lifeguard, she immediately called 911 and began attempting CPR. Two blocks away, volunteer EMT Jeff Olson was working on cars in his day job as a mechanic when his phone sent him a notification about the emergency taking place nearby. So he dropped everything, ran over, and saved the little boy’s life.Olson still seemed rattled while talking about his heroism to the local news afterward. Take a look.

Your Heart Will Break When You See What Years Of Neglect Did To This Bird

When we think about mental illness, we don’t often consider the fact that thousands of animals are forced to deal with anxiety and depression every single day. These creatures experience emotions just as deeply and intensely as we do, so it only makes sense that they’d develop psychological issues after enduring years of abuse and neglect.

One such animal is a sweet little cockatoo that now goes by the name of Javi. Her previous owners called her Hobby, and they treated her as such. This bird was seen as little more than a plaything for most of her life, which actually caused her to develop anxiety issues.

This is probably what you think of when a cockatoo is mentioned…

But these beauties, along with other birds, often resort to a practice called “over-preening” when they feel chronically anxious.

Now going by Javi, the beautiful bird came to the sanctuary as Hobby. Born in 1996, the feathered friend was most likely treated like her namesake, which in turn caused her a great deal of stress.

Because of her constant anxiety, she over-preened to a drastic level…

But thanks to Tallgrass Parrot Sanctuary, Javi is finally enjoying her brand-new life!

According to one adorable Facebook post, “She’s doing awesome! She’s a rockstar.” She’s since cut back on over-preening, but as far as feather regrowth, only time will tell. Even if her feathers don’t grow back, she will still be able to lead a healthy, happy life with the right care. In the meantime, she’ll be busy taking nice baths and snacking on some of her new favorite foods!

Watch Javi show off her dance moves in the video below:

We have decided to change Hobby's name to Javi, (pronounced "Ha vee") since no living being should be someone's hobby. She is becoming more confident and loves to explore as long as I'm close by.If anyone would like to donate for Javi's care as well as the others here in our care you can do so at our website www.tallgrassparrot.org

Jake Was Badly Burned In A Fire As A Pup, But His Story Is So Inspiring

Not many people would even consider abandoning a family member after they were caught in a house fire.

But Jake’s family did just that.

When firefighters managed to pull the tiny pup from the flames, he had already suffered bad burns. His family took the poor boy to the vet…where they promptly abandoned him. But that’s not where his story ends.

Jake was abandoned after a fire left him badly burned.

(function(d, s, id) { var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0]; if (d.getElementById(id)) return; js = d.createElement(s); js.id = id; js.src = “//connect.facebook.net/en_US/sdk.js#xfbml=1&version=v2.3”; fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs);}(document, ‘script’, ‘facebook-jssdk’));

He was estimated to be only a few weeks old at the time.

(function(d, s, id) { var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0]; if (d.getElementById(id)) return; js = d.createElement(s); js.id = id; js.src = “//connect.facebook.net/en_US/sdk.js#xfbml=1&version=v2.3”; fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs);}(document, ‘script’, ‘facebook-jssdk’));

After weeks of rehab, Jake made a full recovery. Sadly, though, his scars from the fire remained.

(function(d, s, id) { var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0]; if (d.getElementById(id)) return; js = d.createElement(s); js.id = id; js.src = “//connect.facebook.net/en_US/sdk.js#xfbml=1&version=v2.3”; fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs);}(document, ‘script’, ‘facebook-jssdk’));

Fortunately for Jake, the firefighter who rescued him took him under his wing and adopted him.

(function(d, s, id) { var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0]; if (d.getElementById(id)) return; js = d.createElement(s); js.id = id; js.src = “//connect.facebook.net/en_US/sdk.js#xfbml=1&version=v2.3”; fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs);}(document, ‘script’, ‘facebook-jssdk’));

Since then, he’s been hanging out at the firehouse with his new owner.

(function(d, s, id) { var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0]; if (d.getElementById(id)) return; js = d.createElement(s); js.id = id; js.src = “//connect.facebook.net/en_US/sdk.js#xfbml=1&version=v2.3”; fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs);}(document, ‘script’, ‘facebook-jssdk’));

He’s even become the official mascot of the department, traveling around the city with firefighters when they give fire safety lectures at schools.

(function(d, s, id) { var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0]; if (d.getElementById(id)) return; js = d.createElement(s); js.id = id; js.src = “//connect.facebook.net/en_US/sdk.js#xfbml=1&version=v2.3”; fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs);}(document, ‘script’, ‘facebook-jssdk’));

He was also officially sworn in by the city as a member of the department.

(function(d, s, id) { var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0]; if (d.getElementById(id)) return; js = d.createElement(s); js.id = id; js.src = “//connect.facebook.net/en_US/sdk.js#xfbml=1&version=v2.3”; fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs);}(document, ‘script’, ‘facebook-jssdk’));

Jake plans to become a therapy dog to continue his helping ways!

(function(d, s, id) { var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0]; if (d.getElementById(id)) return; js = d.createElement(s); js.id = id; js.src = “//connect.facebook.net/en_US/sdk.js#xfbml=1&version=v2.3”; fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs);}(document, ‘script’, ‘facebook-jssdk’));

These Dogs Are More Than Man’s Best Friends: They’re Actual Heroes.

Have you ever met someone who said they weren’t a “dog person”? They’re rare, but they are out there. And they are idiots. Smart people know the truth: dogs are 100% the best. They’re like four legged balls of fluffy love and loyalty.

There are some amazing canines who go above and beyond to bring safety and comfort to others. You’d be hard-pressed to find a human who’s this selfless. Take a look.

1.) Minta: Before 8 year old Jacob met Minta, his severe autism made it difficult for him to communicate and he was so lonely he hardly ever smiled. Now the two are inseparable and Jacob’s confidence grows everyday.

2.) Kabang: This Philippines pup might shock you when you first see her, but her facial injuries were a result of rescuing to little girls from an oncoming motorcycle.

3.) Killan: This distinguished dog’s owners noticed it acting strangely aggressive to the babysitter of their 7-month old son. Based on the odd behavior, they left a camera to record the sitter the next time she came to watch the infant and discovered she had been physically and verbally abusing the small child.

4.) Zoey: Tiny but fierce, this chihuahua stepped in between her owner’s infant child and a rattlesnake. She suffered a bite just above her eyes but made a full recovery.

5.) Bandit: This family was lucky to be pup-sitting this adorable guy when someone forgot about sterilizing a hairbrush on the stove and left it boiling all night, causing a fire. Bandit smelled the smoke and alerted the family before the fire could spread past the stove.

6.) Neo: When his owner suffered hypoglycemic shock, Neo ran to a nearby and brought people back with him who rushed her to the hospital where she made a full recovery.

7.) Meg: After being rescued herself from cruelty that led the sweet girl to lose her leg, the RSPCA sheltering her noticed she would often stare up at the ceiling and whine. When they investigated, they discovered five kittens.

8.) Roxanne: When her family’s house caught on fire, Roxanne barked until they woke up and were able to find safety.

9.) Belle: This beautiful beagle dialed 911 by biting into her owner’s cell phone when he suffered a diabetic seizure.

10.) Honey: When the SUV she and her owner were in overturned, she was barely able to squeeze out and brought help with her to save the man’s life.

11.) Trakr: After the tragic events on September 11, 2001, Trakr was one of the many dogs used to help sniff out survivors and was responsible for locating the last living victim who had been pinned under 30 feet of debris.

12.) Orlando: While at a New York City subway platform, Orlando’s blind owner fell onto the tracks and was knocked unconscious as a train approached. Orlando jumped down and laid on top of his owner, saving him from the impact.

13.) Patty: While duck hunting out in North Atlantic waters with her owner, their boat capsized and the man clung to her tail as she swum them to safety.

14.) Nellie: This gorgeous girl used was able to alert her deaf owner when an intruder broke into their home.

15.) Katrina: The aptly named black lab saved her drowning owner during the floods of Hurricane Katrina.

16.) Rocky: A Colorado police dog, Rocky chased down a burglar and even suffered a bullet wound, but it didn’t stop him from nabbing the crook.

Ever Wanted To Know What It’d Be Like To Drown? This Simulator Can Show You

Perhaps the most frightening aspect of drowning to death occurs after desperate attempts to stay alive fail. In the last seconds of someone’s life, a series of automated responses causes the victim’s body to relax, as if easing itself into death.

Ever wonder what it’d be like to drown? This horrifying, first-person simulator will reveal the experience to you in all its terrifying glory.

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jv8nVOYBUSs?autoplay=0]

One of the follies that doomed this person was that he attempted to swim toward the boat, and in doing so, lost precious energy. If your boat is out of sight, the best thing you can do is either float or tread water. Conserving energy is key if you want to get out of situations like this with your life.

Tiny Hummingbird Caught In A Wad Of Chewing Gum Gets An Incredible Rescue.

We’ve all dealt with the sticky issue of having gum stuck in our hair. There’s a reason why many mothers always warned their children to not fall asleep with that Wrigley’s in their mouths (aside from the obvious choking hazard), but we never really learned our lesson until we had to sit through the headache of peanut butter, ice cubes, and every other supposed remedy under the sun. After all of that pulling and scrubbing, most moms would ultimately lop off the chunk of hair. (You were probably thinking of rocking bangs, anyway.)

Now, imagine your whole body is roughly the size of that piece of gum and going through the same ordeal. That’s what happened to this little hummingbird who was discovered hopelessly stuck to the ground. Luckily, the family, including an adorable three year old narrating the whole thing, was able to extricate him and send him on his happy way.

“Is it stuck? It is stuck!”

“He wants to get out of there.”

“That baby bird is really cute.”

“He doesn’t say anything.”

“He go-ed over it.”

(H/T: The Dodo.)

Because of hummingbirds extremely high metabolism, they’re almost constantly eating. If this family hadn’t shown up, this one might have burned through all the energy he needs to survive. Thank goodness they came along. We should all be more careful about where our waste ends up.
