WEBINAR: Message of Hope for Tinnitus Sufferers
Recorded on: April 19, 2017 8 p.m. – 9 p.m. (Eastern)
Presenter: Glenn Schweitzer
Remote CART/Captioning Provider:
Alternative Communication Services, LLC
Summary:
The presentation will be about Glenn’s experience with tinnitus (and to a lesser extent Meniere’s disease) and how he was eventually able to find relief from the ringing in his ears. When it comes to tinnitus, few people have been let down harder than those with hearing loss as many of the common treatment options, like sound masking, are simply not possible. But Glenn’s story and his experience highlight a meditation-based approach that can work for anyone, regardless of their level of hearing. The goal of the presentation is to spread a message of hope to those suffering with tinnitus and hearing loss.

The Neuroscience of Emotions
Google Tech Talks
September 16, 2008
ABSTRACT
The ability to recognize and work with different emotions is fundamental to psychological flexibility and well-being. Neuroscience has contributed to the understanding of the neural bases of emotion, emotion regulation, and emotional intelligence, and has begun to elucidate the brain mechanisms involved in emotion processing. Of great interest is the degree to which these mechanisms demonstrate neuroplasticity in both anatomical and functional levels of the brain.

Absinthe, Thujone, & Artemisia absinthium: What You Need To Know
Absinthe is an alcoholic drink that contains substances from Artemisia absinthium (wormwood). The drink has a long history of use and is often said to differ from ethanol in terms of its effects. However, there is little evidence for those differences.
The drink, like wormwood, usually contains alpha-Thujone. That drug could be psychoactive, but it’s primarily known as a convulsant. Under current regulations in the EU and US, thujone isn’t present at concentrations that would be dangerous. Research suggests old Absinthe preparations also lacked significant concentrations of the substance.

The Drug Classroom (TDC) is dedicated to providing the type of drug education everyone should have. Drugs are never going to leave our society and there has never been a society free from drugs.
Therefore, it only makes sense to provide real education free from propaganda.
TDC doesn’t advocate drug use. Rather, we operate with the intention of reducing the harm some substances can bring.

General Principles
Progress in understanding the nature of the biological membrane has been very rapid over a broad front, but still pockets of ignorance remain. Application of the techniques of molecular biology has provided the sequences of a very large number of membrane proteins, and has led to the discovery of superfamilies of membrane proteins of related structure. In turn, the identification of these superfamilies has led to new ways of thinking about membrane processes. Many of these processes can now be discussed in molecular terms, and unexpected relationships between apparently unrelated phenomena are bringing a new unity to the study of biological membranes. The quantity of information available about membrane proteins is now too large for any one person to be familiar with anything but a very small part of the primary literature. A series of volumes concentrating on molecular aspects of biological membranes therefore seems timely. The hope is that, when complete, these volumes will provide a convenient introduction to the study of a wide range of membrane functions. This first volume is devoted to general surveys of the structure and synthesis of membrane proteins and lipids, of the interactions between lipids and proteins, and of the functions of biological membranes.

Protecting Against Stress & Trauma: Research Lessons for Law Enforcement– Defining the Problem
At this Research for the Real World seminar, NIJ brought together law enforcement practitioners and leading researchers in the field of stress to discuss the current research evidence and practical benefits of targeted stress-management interventions and how they can promote officer mental wellness. In addition, this gathering provided an exploration into what additional research is needed to best support officer health and wellness, potentially highlighting priority areas for future research.

Diet Doctor Podcast #22 — Dr. Georgia Ede
All podcast episodes https://www.dietdoctor.com/podcast
It turns out that the brain and the body aren’t that different when it comes to the risk of toxicity from too much glucose and carbohydrates. As a practicing psychiatrist, Dr. Georgia Ede has seen the benefits of reducing carbohydrate intake on the mental health of her patients. She shares her experience and the unfortunate reluctance of some to acknowledge this association.
Georgia is also an expert in nutritional science, and she lends her take on incomplete and baseless reports such as the EAT-Lancet report. Is it science? Or is it vegan propaganda cloudy by faulty science? Georgia dissects the science and clearly shows how the report falls short of its “evidence based” claims.
