LIVING WITH PANIC ATTACKS (part of ANXIETY DISORDER)

Please watch with headphones (or on anything that has good audio). If you want to see more, you can donate on my website with exclusive content: https://napiorkowska.ning.com/m/ MUSIC and some extra SOUND help: Tomek Chmielewski I do not suffer from panic attacks. A HUGE THANK YOU TO EVERYONE who sent me emails describing their anxiety disorders. I wouldn’t have written this without your help. Most videos on youtube are about “anxiety” which (scientifically speaking) is pretty inaccurate. There are a couple of different anxiety disorders: panic attacks, agoraphobia, social anxiety, specific phobias, generalized anxiety disorder. All of these differ and I think each deserves a separate video, not a messy mash-up. And that’s exactly what I’m going to do. If you think you’re experiencing panic attacks, you might want to watch Zoella’s videos, she gives some really good advice on how to cope with those: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7-iNOFD27G4

Everyone Hates The Dentist. But How This Boy Escaped It Is Totally Genius… And Hilarious.

Hating the dentist is fairly common; the official term for the fear is odontophobia. For children and adults alike, the fear often stems from the anticipation of pain, needles, procedures and the unknown. You might not look twice if someone claimed to be afraid of going to the dentist. A little boy in France, however, took that fear to an entirely new level. The 12 year-old hated going so much, he though of an elaborate excuse to avoid an appointment: he faked his own kidnapping.

His dramatic story began in May after he was found by the police. The boy was hiding in Alpine village of St. Gervais on May 21. When he was questioned by police officers, he claimed that he just escaped his kidnappers in the nearby town of Bagnols. He described his kidnapper as a scar-faced villain who lured him to his car for directions … when he was on his way to a dentist appointment. He said the man pulled him into his car and took off. It was just by sheer luck, according to the boy, that he got away. The boy even described the car and what the perpetrator was wearing with great detail. This went on for an entire month, until the police had the boy come back in for more questioning after they reviewed security footage and couldn’t find the kidnapper. Then, the boy confessed to making the entire story up, just so he didn’t have to go to the dentist. (H/T NY Daily News) Kidnapping is a very serious crime and shouldn’t be joked about, but it’s hard not to be impressed by the young boy’s creativity and determination to not go to the dentist. Treating Addiction as a Human Process

Innovative and humane treatment of patients with substance use disorders distinguishes this highly esteemed practitioner and major psychodynamic thinker. From his initial contribution of identifying the self-medicating function of abused substances, to the continued elaboration and refinement of his work focusing on the addict’s ego deficits of self-regulation and self-care, Edward Khantzian’s ideas have become the standard in the field of addictions treatment. His insights into the dynamics of substance abuse have changed the ways that clinicians understand their addicted patients, significantly raising the likelihood of successful treatment. Shifting the focus from a pleasure-seeking to a pain-relieving approach to their patients’ substance use enables clinicians to engage in a more positive, compassionate psychotherapeutic relationship, unhampered by countertransference feelings of contempt and condemnation. Passionate, professional, and unfailingly astute, Dr. Khantzian examines his patients’ internal worlds, revealing vulnerabilities while uncovering resiliency and strength. This book, comprehensive in scope, abundant in clinical material, and written with clarity and intelligence, provides a depth of understanding of substance use disorders and an increased hope for recovery.
