The Stressed Years of Their Lives

From two leading child and adolescent mental health experts comes a guide for the parents of every college and college-bound student who want to know what’s normal mental health and behavior, what’s not, and how to intervene before it’s too late. “The title says it all…Chock full of practical tools, resources and the wisdom that comes with years of experience, The Stressed Years of their Lives is destined to become a well-thumbed handbook to help families cope with this modern age of anxiety.” — Brigid Schulte, Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist, author of Overwhelmed and director of the Better Life Lab at New America All parenting is in preparation for letting go. However, the paradox of parenting is that the more we learn about late adolescent development and risk, the more frightened we become for our children, and the more we want to stay involved in their lives. This becomes particularly necessary, and also particularly challenging, in mid- to late adolescence, the years just before and after students head off to college. These years coincide with the emergence of many mood disorders and other mental health issues. When family psychologist Dr. B. Janet Hibbs’s own son came home from college mired in a dangerous depressive spiral, she turned to Dr. Anthony Rostain. Dr. Rostain has a secret superpower: he understands the arcane rules governing privacy and parental involvement in students’ mental health care on college campuses, the same rules that sometimes hold parents back from getting good care for their kids. Now, these two doctors have combined their expertise to corral the crucial emotional skills and lessons that every parent and student can learn for a successful launch from home to college.

TOTAL HEALING 432 Hz – Progressive Relaxation Music, Relaxing Stress & Anxiety ! Fall Asleep Fast

https://youtube.com/watch?v=VUo0ERpgaT8

What is Progressive Relaxation? How does it help with stress relief for good : If you have ever experienced overthinking and occasional tension headache you know exactly how stress and anxiety can lead to muscle tension. Progressive relaxation, also called progressive muscle relaxation, is a deep relaxation technique that progressively releases the tension you’re holding in your body. Progressive relaxation has been found to effectively reduce stress, lower anxiety, help control pain, improve quality of sleep and improve overall prospects of live, that keeps you stress free and relaxed. So, how do you practice progressive relaxation? Fortunately, it’s pretty simple. You take a deep breath and at the same time you tense or tighten one muscle group, hold the tension for 5- 10 seconds (hold your breath too) and then release the tension slowly as you breathe out slowly. (So when you are breathing in, you are tensing muscles, when you are holding breath you are holding tension, then when you breathe out slowly, you are releasing tension slowly.) You continue to do this for all of the muscle groups in your body. You can start at your scalp or forehead, move to your face (eyes, cheeks and jaw), then down to your neck and shoulders, then your arms and hands, followed by your back, hips and buttocks, then your legs and finally your feet. This way your full body will relax instantly as you move along this process. To take these exercise to next level (Optional steps though), try and visualize each muscle group and visualize tension releasing from your whole body. This music will act as an anchor cue so next time when you listen to this music your body will immediately go into deep relaxation without you even practising progressive relaxation technique. ( This is genuinely an amazing yet easy way of visualization meditation. ) You are training your body and mind to relax naturally to remain stress free forever this way. Once you are more familiar with the process and have the muscle groups memorized, you can try listening to our other relaxing music while you move through the progressive relaxation explained here. On our sister channel you will find relaxing music that is good for this progressive relaxation practice as they are generally combined with nature sounds. Linda McMahon’s sample ballot: Hey, guys, vote for me … and Obama!

http://twitter.com/#!/KateNocera/status/265839544262328321

U.S. Senate candidate Linda McMahon is running on the Republican and Independent lines, and she and her husband have donated $150,000 to a pro-Romney super PAC. But earlier this week, a doorhanger apparently paid for by her campaign urged citizens in Connecticut, “Vote Barack Obama For President and Vote Linda McMahon For U.S. Senate.”

Today, her campaign is reportedly taking it one step further by distributing this sample ballot:

Politico reporter Kate Nocera was unable to confirm where the sample ballots are being distributed.

@darylherbert I’m not sure where they are passing them out. At the bottom it says “paid for by Linda for Senate”

Ouch! Los Angeles restaurant uses Twitter to shame no-shows

http://twitter.com/#!/redmedicinela/status/315700894945648640

If you have a reservation at Red Medicine in Los Angeles, you might want to consider showing up. Over the weekend, the top restaurant took to Twitter to out no-shows.

Also, big thanks to Carlos MacManus, Colin Rolfs, Allison Joyce, Sam Java, Daniella Brown, and Matt Lopez for no-showing btwn 730p-930p.

— Red Medicine (@redmedicinela) March 24, 2013

All the nice guests who wonder why restaurants overbook and they sometimes have to wait for their res should thank people like those below.

— Red Medicine (@redmedicinela) March 24, 2013

@dom_in_ic all of them? And do you have to ruin all of my fun every time?

— Red Medicine (@redmedicinela) March 24, 2013

LA’s Red Medicine outs no-shows on Twitter eater.cc/16dnAeK

— Eater National (@Eater) March 25, 2013

Red Medicine managing partner Noah Ellis shared his frustration with Eater:

The assholes who decide to no-show, or cancel 20 minutes before their reservation (because one of their friends made a reservation somewhere else) ruin restaurants (as a whole) for the people who make a reservation and do their best to honor it. Either restaurants are forced to overbook and make the guests (that actually showed up) wait, or they do what we do, turn away guests for some prime-time slots because they’re booked, and then have empty tables.

After @redmedicinela Twitter-shames no-shows, a customer responds. nym.ag/ZV2H5k

— Grub Street (@grubstreetny) March 26, 2013

One of the no-shows told Grub Street, “I got a call from my mom saying my uncle had passed away and it was the last thing on my mind to call and cancel our reservation.”

So, was it the right thing to publicly call people out for rudeness or was this an unprofessional social media blunder? The tweets drew both cheers and jeers on Twitter.

Totally agree with the @redmedicinela to “Tweet You Out” when you no-show a reservation…Bold.

— L.J. Lobsinger, Jr. (@ljlobsinger) March 27, 2013

OMG, this restaurant has balls! I want to eat at RED MEDICINE in Beverly Hills BECAUSE of this:@redmedicinela #fbeater.com/archives/2010/…

— Ellen Douglas (@alwaysellen) March 26, 2013

@redmedicinela I think you guus are doing the right thing. Yeah shame them for not having basic courtesy!

— huzaini (@huzainitoshi) March 27, 2013

@redmedicinela love the story about your restaurant and the reservations tweets. AWESOME!!! I wanna come to a place with some ‘tude!

— Jessica (@bozobarr) March 27, 2013

@redmedicinela Might be a common problem but really unprofessional approach… sure makes it seem like a bitter place I’d rather not visit.

— J Kilmer (@leavingcelestia) March 27, 2013

@redmedicinela What your company is doing is shameful. You must really hate your customers. You and @bioware @bioevilchris should team up.

— HisShadowX (@HisShadowX) March 27, 2013

@redmedicinela such a rookie move….good luck

— Kim Fretz-Fernandes (@hbguide) March 27, 2013

Would @redmedicinela feel regret if they saw an obituary for one of the no-shows? Accident report? #ExtenuatingCircumstances #2WrongsNoRight

— Garidin Winslow (@Garidin) March 27, 2013

@redmedicinela Tip: Stop using your customers names on your twitter page if you don’t want to be on the next season of Kitchen nightmares.

— Dave Bohr™ (@ApexContestPrep) March 27, 2013

Did Red Medicine open itself up to a prime trolling opportunity?

@redmedicinela Watch how many no show’s you’re going to have now this coming Sat. by opening this can of worms. It will be intentional now.

— Dave Bohr™ (@ApexContestPrep) March 27, 2013

@darrenrovell @redmedicinela I’m gonna make a reservation and not go so I can get a free shout out from their twitter !

— Paul (@Paulos_guy) March 26, 2013

I might make a reservation at @redmedicinela just to get a shoutout for being a no-show. Good strategy when everyone in LA loves attention.

— The Puffington Host™ (@Puffington_Host) March 26, 2013

Hi, @redmedicinela. I’d like to make a reservation for all of Twitter, this Saturday at 8 PM under the name “Alex Hidell” … thanks.
