Race and the Presidential Election: A Discussion with Tricia Rose and James Morone

Nationally recognized scholars of race and politics Tricia Rose and James Morone will discuss the implications of race in the context of the presidential campaign and the longer term political consequences.

“Climate Change and Human Health” Lecture by Howard Frumkin

Brown University March 2, 2018 | 3:00pm | IBES 015 Climate Change has been described as both the biggest public health threat and the biggest public health opportunity of the 21st century. This talk reviews the human health consequences of climate change, and review approaches to protecting people, both through mitigation (or primary prevention) and adaptation (or public health preparedness). It will also consider some “meta” issues such as how to communicate about climate change and how to maintain hope and avoid despair.

TBI-ED: Social and Psychological Factors

A series of talks presented by Dr. Christine Baugh (Harvard Medical School), Katherine Snedaker (PINK Concussions), and Meg Curran & Dr. Ben Johnson (RI-CBT). Dr. Baugh talks about the current state of concussion education, social norms and concussion reporting, and how social norms can be addressed in concussion education programming. Katherine Snedaker presents on the current status of research into differences of sports-related brain injury between males and females and advocates for greater concussion education to promote reporting. Curran and Dr. Johnson present on the psychological symptoms of concussion that present in a therapeutic setting and can be long-lasting. Following the series of presentations, a Q&A with audience members is held. Tackling Brain Injuries through Education Design was a one day event at Brown University that combined a multi-disciplinary program development workshop with a general event featuring expert speakers. The goal of this video publication is to mobilize stakeholders at Brown and beyond to improve sports-related and general concussion policy, awareness, and practice in our community.
