Trump’s Turnberry golf resort loses British Open over Muslim remarks?

Big news, if true. We’re seeing multiple media organizations report that thattheRoyal and Ancient Golf Club, the governing body that administers the yearly Open Championship (British Open), will not award the 2020 event to Donald Trump’s legendary Turnberry golf club in Scotland over remarks he’s made about Muslims while campaigning for President of the U.S.:

So far, however, everything we’re seeing on the story links back to the Indpendentwhich is reporting that the decision has been made “privately,” not officially:

When Donald Trump bought the famous Turnberry golf club in Ayrshire last year, he believed his name would soon be cemented alongside the legends of the game.
But his dream of handing over the trophy at The Open is in tatters, The Independent on Sunday can reveal, after golfs governing body, headquartered in Scotland, privately decided that his reputation is now so toxic that the newly renamed Trump Turnberry can no longer host the games most prestigious tournament.
Controversial remarks made by Mr Trump in his campaign for the Republican nomination about Muslims, Mexicans, Chinese and women, among others have given him a near-pariah status in the global game, raising the risk of a boycott by sponsors and international players.
Previously, the new chief executive of the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews, Martin Slumbers, had been expected to endorse Turnberry as a venue for the 2020 Open.

A confirmation would be nice, heh?

When Trump purchased Turnberry in 2014, he called it“an honor and privilege to own one of golf’s greatest and most exciting properties” and he made sure to keep in the good graces of theRoyal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews, the governing body that administers the yearly Open Championship (British Open):

“I’m not going to touch a thing unless the Royal & Ancient ask for it or approve it,” Trump told golf.com. “I have the greatest respect for the R&A and for (chief executive) Peter Dawson. I won’t do anything to the golf course at all without their full stamp of approval.”

Trump was in attendance this summer when Turnberry hosted the Women’s Open:

This is a rare move by the White House, which has certainly been less than transparent. Could it have something to do with former Defense Secretary Robert Gates’ new book, which is particularly critical of Biden?

In his memoir, Gates reportedly describes Biden as “wrong on nearly every major foreign policy and national security issue over the past four decades.” Some shots of Obama and Biden together might shore up their image as united and actively engaged.

We’ve been told through a Apple Store supply that has been dependable in past times that products are being made for a large Apple Store event that’ll culminate on Friday, March sixteenth. Naturally, this points to an iPad 3 launch on the Friday only nine times after tomorrow’s statement. So here’s the deal: Kansas Democrat Chad Taylor has been running against incumbent GOP Senator Pat Roberts, but the Independent candidate is currently beating him in the polls. So, what’s a flailing Dem to do? Why, drop out of the race, of course.

Unfortunately for Taylor, Kansas’ secretary of state isn’t letting him off the hook so easily. And The New Republic really doesn’t like that. Because … voter suppression?

The case will now go to the courts. Election law guru Rick Hasen writes that though Taylor has a case, the question of what the courts will do is a tossup. If they rule for Kobach, then Democrats will have to undertake the awkward task of asking voters not to vote for the Democrat on the ballot. But they’ll also have vouchsafed the strategy Republicans always employ when they fear the electorate isn’t on their side. Normally that means making it hard for Democrats to vote in the first place. This time around it means trying to trick low-information Democrats into voting for a candidate who isn’t running. But it’s still voter suppression.

It is? Since when?
