Zendaya Wrote A Powerful Defense Of Her Hair After Racist Comments On E!’s “Fashion Police”
“I feel like she smells like patchouli oil,” Giuliana Rancic said. “Or weed,” another host added. Update: Rancic has apologized in a video message.
1. Fashion Police‘s Academy Awards special on Feb. 23 angered viewers after host Giuliana Rancic described Zendaya’s locs as making her look like she “smells like patchouli oil.” “Or weed,” someone added.
“Maybe weed,” Rancic agreed.
The hairstyle was a new look for the young singer, who most recently sported a pixie cut.
3. People were horrified at the comment, which many interpreted as racially loaded.
Your racist and xenophobic statement about Zendaya’s hair wasn’t funny. Try being interesting, for once. Make it a goal. @GiulianaRancic
— thetrudz (@Trudy)
still waiting for @ENews & @GiulianaRancic to explain, retract and apologize for this. and @Zendaya, where are you? http://t.co/uWML0Ks4FU
— TeeThaGoddess (@trapqueen ♚)
8. Some also pointed out the hypocrisy of the comment, because Rancic has praised Kylie Jenner for wearing dreadlocks.
But Kylie Jenner’s hair is cool and edgy though, right? Foh @GiulianaRancic RT @dirtyxluxury: wow. http://t.co/VLj4pR6h95
— heyPAIDA (@#JeSuisPaiPai)
im glad giuliana rancic is catching flack for that comment. she thought kylies dreads were edgy but zendayas are dirty. hmm.
— princessg4y (@lil mama)
11. Zendaya herself took to Twitter to write a passionate statement about being “hit with ignorant slurs and pure disrespect,” listing scores of inspiring people who also rock the hairstyle.
13. “To say that an 18-year-old young woman with locs must smell of patchouli oil or ‘weed’ is not only a large stereotype but outrageously offensive,” she wrote.
The singer and actress, who has been a frequent guest host on the show, added:
“There is already harsh criticism of African-American hair in society without the help of ignorant people who choose to judge others based on the curl of their hair. My wearing my hair in locs on an Oscar red carpet was to showcase them in a positive light, to remind people of color that our hair is good enough.”
15. Rancic wrote an apology on Twitter, saying her comments had “NOTHING to do with race.”
Dear @Zendaya, I’m sorry I offended you and others. I was referring to a bohemian chic look. Had NOTHING to do with race and NEVER would!!!
— GiulianaRancic (@Giuliana Rancic)
17. Osbourne also chimed in an hour later, saying that she and Zendaya are friends.
I WILL NOT BE DRAGED INTO THIS! The situation is being rectified like ADULTS by both parties. I hope you can leave it to them & do the same!
— KellyOsbourne (@Kelly Osbourne)
update
Osbourne denied being a part of the conversation on Twitter, saying she might leave the show because of the accusations. The post has been update as it’s not clear whether Osbourne or Kathy Griffin made the comment. I DID NOT MAKE THE WEED COMENT. I DO NOT CONDONE RACISM SO AS A RSULT OF THIS IM SEREIOULSY QUESTIONONIG STAYING ON THE SHOW!
— KellyOsbourne (@Kelly Osbourne)
22. Representatives for E! did not respond to multiple requests for comment.
update
On Tuesday night, E! released a video message from Rancic, apologizing to Zendaya “and anyone else out there that [she has] hurt.” BF_STATIC.timequeue.push(function () { document.getElementById(“update_article_update_time_5079521”).innerHTML = UI.dateFormat.get_formatted_date(‘2015-02-24 20:56:05 -0500’, ‘update’); });

You Can Make This Delicious Carb Staple In A Plastic Bag — YUM
I could make an entire meal out of just bread and butter.
If you’re a carboholic like myself, then you know there’s nothing better than slabbing a healthy coating of butter on a freshly baked slice of bread. When I go out to eat somewhere that has free bread, more often than not, after I’m done filling up on the doughy goodness, I end up taking most of my actual meal home with me.
While baking bread isn’t an impossible task, I just don’t have the patience for it. And don’t even get me started on the cleanup. Thanks to the internet, though, I’ve discovered a challah bread recipe that is neither time-consuming nor does it involve dirtying a variety of bowls and pans.
The entire mixing process is done in a plastic baggy, and for that reason alone, this carby treat might be my new go-to fave.

The same carbs and deliciousness you’d get at a restaurant, now in your own home. I already have my first batch prepping in the fridge. I can’t wait to eat freshly baked challah all year round!

Burn it all! #AmherstUprising snowflakes just taught us a new ‘dumb SJWism’
As Twitchy told you,a group of Amherst College students calling themselves “Amherst Uprising” have submitted a long list of demands to the college’s president, administrators, and board of trustees. Among their 11 demands is that any student found displaying a “Free Speech” poster be subjected todisciplinary action, including mandatory “extensive training for racial and cultural competency.” They’ve given until 11:59 p.m. on November 18 to comply. Otherwise, there could be trouble. You hear that? Trouble!
Here’s another demand:
It’s full of the usual SJW P.C. jargon… except maybe for one term we’ve heretofore been unfamiliar with:
“Latinx”? Seriously? What fresh hell is this?
Oh, lawdy …
The “x” makes Latino, a masculine identifier, gender-neutral. It also moves beyondLatin@ which has been used in the past to include both masculine and feminine identities to encompass genders outside of that limiting man-woman binary.
Latinx, pronounced “La-teen-ex,” includes the numerous people of Latin American descent whose gender identities fluctuate along different points of the spectrum, fromagenderornonbinarytogender non-conforming,genderqueerandgenderfluid.
So, this is where we’re at now.Fan. Frigging. Tastic.
The more we know, the more we pray for Sweet Meteor of Death to come and end it all.
We have to laugh so we don’t cry.
Get to it!

Hillary evolves on gay marriage, mysteriously avoids getting Portman’d by lefties
Gay-lo and behold! In a new video, Hillary Clinton officially came out in support of gay marriage:
https://twitter.com/mpoppel/status/313662051086131200
This is, of course, a truly unprecedented event, and one that proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that when it comes to gay rights, liberals are waaaaay ahead of conservatives.
Or not:

Yep. In an op-ed last week, Ohio Sen. Rob Portman, a Republican, revealed his support for same-sex marriage.

With a little bit of mental acrobatics, though, libs found a way to attribute Portman’s evolution to conservatives’ hypocrisy and bigotry. Surely they’d bust Hillary’s chops for taking even longer to come around, right?

No way. Hillary’s a special case, you guys. She’s a Democrat. That means she’s immune from criticism. It’s not about the journey; it’s about the destination! And she got there, eventually.
