Llamas for life. They’ve been rounded up, but their legend lives on.
The llamas ran free in a roughly 20-minute chase that soon gained them fans across the country.
Local news station ABC 15 covered it live from the air.
The llamas tore through yards and shut down highways as the hapless Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office posse trying to corral them looked on.
Authorities tried to lasso the llamas multiple times, but the adorable escapees consistently broke free.
Eventually, the white llama also got lassoed.
Its captors raised their hats in the air in a victory celebration.
Lt. Brandon Jones of the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office said that the llamas were participating in animal therapy at an assisted living facility when they escaped, AzCentral.com reported.
Authorities believe the llamas got spooked when the door to the trailer they had arrived in opened. They said there was a third llama in the trailer, but it did not escape.
Sheriff’s officials tried to corral the llamas, but were unsuccessful.
They were eventually lassoed by onlookers.
“If it weren’t for (their help) we wouldn’t have been able to catch them,” Jones told AzCentral.com
