US Airways’ apology for treatment of Army Ranger ‘too little, too late’

http://twitter.com/#!/aletheiatruth/status/520713573035544576

As Twitchy reported Friday, passengers on a US Airways flight were outraged when a flight attendant refused to hang up an Army Ranger’s uniform jacket, explaining that the service was available only to first class passengers.

One of those passengers, @Bkirby72, took to Twitter to complain to US Airways, explaining that “three of us in first class begged your poorly trained associate to hang this hero’s decorated jacket,” while WSOC reported that other first class passengers offered to switch seats with the sergeant, to no avail.

US Airways tweeted an apology and promised an internal review, but the airline still isn’t forgiven.

@USAirways is it really in your policy to disrespect brave men such as Sergeant Marle? Flight attendant Ava of US 1930 from PDX to CLT.

— Laura Kirby (@LauraKirby76) October 9, 2014

@laurakirby76 We have great respect for our Military personnel, Laura. We're very sorry if you observed differently.

— US Airways (@USAirways) October 9, 2014

Sorry if you observed differently? Try again.

We hold all those serving our country in the highest regard and apologize for any offense caused. We are reviewing the incident internally.

— US Airways (@USAirways) October 10, 2014

@USAirways WAY too little too late. Learn from @AmericanAir – this would NOT happen (I've given my 1st seat to plenty of US military on AA)

— Betsy Novak (@betsyflounders) October 10, 2014

@USAirways until the employee is a former employee it's just lip service!

— Knockoutradio (@knockoutradio) October 10, 2014

@USAirways You will be forgiven after she is fired. It's time to hold employees accountable

— Michael Trotman (@mtrotman) October 10, 2014

@USAirways try this: we fired the crew member who treated one of America's heroes shamefully, we are truly sorry, it won't ever happen again

— Advocacy Ink (@AdvocacyInk) October 10, 2014

It was a military coat with medals. It doesn't take a genius to know the right thing to do. @USAirways Shame on you. Demote that attendant.

— CoolGreenPines (@CoolGreenPines) October 11, 2014

@USAirways "Reviewing internally" FFS. Your policies suck, I'll stick to @SouthwestAir who holds Armed Forces members in the highest regard.

— Mike Arroyo (@iker42) October 11, 2014

@USAirways Talk is Cheap…Prove it. Our veteran should get free airfare for the rest of his life! The Stewardess needs to work in baggage!

— Drew Hanson (@johnnyreb1864) October 11, 2014

@johnnyreb1864 We apologize and are internally reviewing. We hold the men and women serving our country in the highest regard.

— US Airways (@USAirways) October 11, 2014

@USAirways This American hero was treated shamefully. Your policy in this matter needs to be reviewed & changed. Lots of options when flying

— Keith Hoffman (@kyliving) October 11, 2014

Prove it. RT @USAirways We hold all those serving our country in the highest regard …

— Kurt Schlichter (@KurtSchlichter) October 11, 2014

@USAirways What is WRONG with you people?? That flight attendant had NO business treating that soldier that way.

— TalentManagerWendy (@WAW_Wendy) October 11, 2014

@USAirways Really? Well you blew it. You all need suspension/probation and loss of pay. My company will no longer EVER fly US Air

— Less Gov. More Fun. (@LessGovMoreFun) October 12, 2014

@USAirways It is great to have policies but please hire employees with common sense as this is unacceptable and nothing can change that!

— cmconcepts (@cmconcepts) October 12, 2014

@USAirways No way anyone should fly with you – with so much disrespect . This is awful and your airlines is fallen in reputation severely

— Lucien Mark (@LucienMark) October 13, 2014

@USAirways As both a Travel Agency Owner and a (USAF SGT 1976-1980)- I can only say what happened on this flight was a total lack of respect

— Ken (@KenBT) October 13, 2014

No kidding.

We didn't get the situation on Thursday right. We'll always try to do better. http://t.co/HbEXQvvnPJ

Barack Obama begins campaign in Colorado by targeting women voters

http://twitter.com/#!/KDVR/status/180090284108029952

From Fox 31 Denver:

“It’s Republicans who, through their own choice, have brought up these very divisive social issues,” said Rick Palacio, the chairman of the Colorado Democratic Party. “They’re creating their own mess for themselves. And if they continue this divisive argument over women and women’s issues, I think it’s going to put us over the edge again.”

At the campaign’s Denver headquarters on Wednesday, Barb Wahl, a nurse from Aurora, took part in a conference call to make the campaign’s case to reporters.

A few hours later at a campaign office in Lakewood, a small group of women volunteers made phone calls, talking to other women about the differences between the President and some Republicans on women’s issues.

“Health care for women is very important,” said Lorena Houchen of Lakewood in between calls. “Trying to make it a religious issue is ridiculous. Most of the women in the country want to have health care. They want to have the option of being able to control their own lives and their own body.”

And that’s why the First Amendment doesn’t matter.

Rep. Hank Johnson slams GOP immigration reform as ‘the ugly head of racism’

http://twitter.com/#!/JenebaSpeaks/status/274600106886561793

Well, Democrats almost stopped short of calling it racist, but it seems they just couldn’t help themselves. The Republican-led House today took a step toward its version of immigration reform by passing the STEM Jobs Act, which would reallocate up to 55,000 green cards from a diversity program and direct them to foreign students earning advanced degrees in science, technology, engineering and math, or STEM.

House passes STEM Jobs Bill 245-139, 27 Dems voted with Republicans in support of it.

— Jordan Fabian (@Jordanfabian) November 30, 2012

The bill would also cut to one year the wait for spouses and minor children of legal permanent residents to come to the U.S.

Most people would find it difficult to call such an immigration policy racist, but Rep. Hank Johnson (D-Ga.) found a way. While the Congressman said that he wasn’t accusing anybody of racism, he insisted the program was racist in its effect if not intent.

Debate over STEM visa bill getting heated on the House floor. Rep. Hank Johnson said it was “racist” if not in intent, then in effect.

— Alan Gomez (@alangomez) November 30, 2012

Rep. Hank Johnson (D-GA) calls GOP immigration bill “racist.” Says “it is a trojan horse and baresthe ugly face of racism.”

— Chad Pergram (@ChadPergram) November 30, 2012

“Republicans have just received historically low votes from minorities in the past election, yet they want to create an immigration system that gives visas with one hand while taking visas away from minorities with the other,” he told lawmakers. “It is a Trojan horse, and the ugly head of racism will rear its ugly head if this Trojan horse, H.R. 6429, becomes law.” Really?

House pushes thru STEM Jobs Act, which comes at the expense of immigrants w/ less education and privilege colorlines.com/archives/2012/…

— julianne hing (@juliannehing) November 30, 2012

The GOP’s STEM Jobs Act says: PhDs Shantay, you stay!, regular immigrants sashay away. soc.li/oOhRQRC

— Jorge Rivas (@thisisjorge) November 30, 2012

Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) said he was “personally insulted” by the charge.

Issa tells Hank Johnson on the floor “to go to a masters or PhD… and see the diversity before accusing anyone of racism.”

— Chad Pergram (@ChadPergram) November 30, 2012

Many lawmakers, though, including New York Mayor Mike Bloomberg, praised the Republican effort to create technology jobs.

Hopefully the STEM Jobs Act will begin a renewed focus on the need to overhaul & modernize our immigration system: bit.ly/Tx32JZ

— Mike Bloomberg (@MikeBloomberg) November 30, 2012

I voted yes as the House passed the STEM Jobs Act. More visas for high-skilled immigrants – great news for Indiana: ow.ly/fIUod

— Todd Rokita (@ToddRokita) November 30, 2012

Glad House passed STEM Jobs Act. Keeping more highly-skilled grads in the US will help keep us hub for tech innovation ht.ly/fIwln

— Jeff Flake (@JeffFlake) November 30, 2012

Some, though, are less concerned with importing highly skilled immigrants than with filling STEM jobs with American candidates.

@ariannahuff There are hundreds of PhD chemists without jobs– there isn’t a STEM talent gap, there’s a STEM wage gap!

— onesleepynerd (@onesleepynerd) December 1, 2012

@gopleader nice you r committed to foreign STEM grads but what about citizens & your own constituents who need #HR3032 to keep their jobs?

Robert Reich laments money in politics — if the money is from conservatives

http://twitter.com/#!/RBReich/status/222443653317140480

The former U.S. Secretary of Labor and Berkeley’s current Chancellor’s Professor of Public Policy is fed up with money playing a role in politics, gosh-darn it! And he’s taken to Twitter to express his righteous indignation:

CEOs have no right to spend shareholder money on politics without disclosing to whom it's going & giving shareholders a chance to opt out.

— Robert Reich (@RBReich) July 9, 2012

2012 will go down in history as the year we lost our democracy to big money. Will 2013 be the year we take it back?

— Robert Reich (@RBReich) July 9, 2012

America suffers, as MLK said, not from the "actions of the bad people but the appalling silence and indifference of the good people." Act.

— Robert Reich (@RBReich) July 9, 2012

Obviously, Robert, you’re still sore about Citizens United (just like your buddies Peter Fonda, Ben, and Jerry). Stomp that foot! Maybe AFL-CIO president Richard Trumka will join you in your tantrum; he, too, thinks money’s “dangerous to democracy.” ::cough::

Reich found some support among fellow waaaaaahmbulance passengers:

Fuck yeah! RT @RBReich: 2012 will go down in history as the year we lost our democracy to big money. Will 2013 be the year we take it back?

https://twitter.com/bobdobolina/status/222445501688201217

One lefty was willing to acknowledge something Reich did not:

@RBReich I agree 100%, but this is what the GOP say about the union support Dems receive? How can we make your argument and counter theirs?

— J P (@histino) July 9, 2012

Many conservatives echoed this point, countering Reich’s arguments by pointing out his hypocrisy when it comes to unions’ financial contributions.

@RBReich You would be referring to the heads of the labor unions, wouldn't you?

— Ted Frank (@Colonel_Ted) July 9, 2012

@RBReich Do Union Leaders have the same responsibilities as CEO's to disclose to its member's where dues are spent on politics?

— J.P. Kalishek (@JPKalishek) July 9, 2012

— Ted Frank (@Colonel_Ted) July 9, 2012

https://twitter.com/clarkcali/status/222451054783107072

Hopefully this November, Reich’s tears will be genuine:

@RBReich 2012 will actually be the year that the Tea Party will save the country from Obama and the communists (Democrats) in Congress.

Don’t tell anyone: Twitter confidentially files for its IPO

http://twitter.com/#!/kevinroose/status/378265535927959552

Twitter is moving ahead with its plans for an initial public offering, but don’t tell anyone you heard it from us. In a tweet, Twitter noted that it had filed its submission confidentially.

http://twitter.com/#!/max_read/status/378262938890416128

No, read the tweet.

Facebook went public last May, with high rollers like 2.3 percent owner Bono suddenly finding himself with $1.5 billion worth of Facebook stock. Twitter, on the other hand, is valued at around $10 billion total.

It’s the most exciting day in Twitter’s seven-year history — now get back to work. There are conservatives in Twitter Gulag who need their gruel.
