Joe Biden gets ‘bitter clinger’: O-care website will be fixed ‘God willing’

http://twitter.com/#!/PhilCooke/status/402541263808761856

The Almighty might not appreciate being dragged into the mess that is the Obamacare rollout, but Joe Biden has promised that HealthCare.gov would be repaired with some help from on high. Today, according to a pool report, Biden made God part of the administration’s “tech surge”:

Maybe somebody can ask Biden if asking for God’s help in putting the train wreck back on the tracks violates the “separation of church and state” that is so often talked about.

Need A Last-Minute Halloween Costume? Check Out These Simple Mask Ideas.

We all know how it goes. You start the Halloween season with high hopes of crafting a costume that will blow everyone away. You carry the image of it in your head. You tell yourself that this will be the weekend when you finally get to the store to put your masterpiece together.

This never happens as planned, because you have those obnoxious responsibilities that get in the way. Pretty soon, there are less than ten days till Halloween and you still have nothing. Your options are to run to one of those pop-up Halloween stores and try to find something amid the wreckage. Or, you have to be that person who shows up with no costume except for your sheepish excuses.

…but not anymore. Do you have some cardboard? What about tape and scissors? Then you’re set.

The Skull mask

This looks complex, but you can make this yourself.

Human(ish)

Stormtrooper

Designer Steve Wintercroft created a series of mask templates available for immediate download. The templates are purchased and downloaded, then printed on regular paper. The paper is then glued to thin cardboard (like a cereal box), cut out, and taped together as per the instructions. The masks are inexpensive, running at £4.50, or about $7.25 USD. You can choose from a variety of animals, including a bear, a fox, a cat, a pig, and an owl. You can also choose from a skull, a Stormtrooper, a pumpkin, and a pretty unnerving human. Because the patterns are simply printed out, the masks can be decorated in any way you like. Depending on the complexity of the pattern, the masks can take anywhere from one to four hours to complete.

With a simple, one-color paint job and the right outfit on, these geometric masks can turn your getup into a striking costume. They’re also simple enough to put together that they can be a good family project if you’re trying to deck out several people.

Hopefully these masks help you in your Halloween costume quest. After all, if you can’t spare 1 to 4 hours to put together a Halloween mask, you probably don’t have time for Halloween in the first place.

CNN’s Don Lemon asks if Islam may be ‘more violent’ than other faiths

http://twitter.com/#!/WaynesterAtl/status/508039282494566401

We thought we had settled this back in 2010, when PBS’ Tavis Smiley revealed to Ayaan Hirsi Ali that Christians commit terrorist acts “every single day in this country.” Maybe Christians aren’t the most violent of religions, though. Thursday, CNN’s Don Lemon asked his panel, “Is Islam a more violent religion than other faiths?”

As the Daily Caller, which has video of the segment, reports, only Islamic Monthly editor Arsalan Iftikhar disagreed, citing Christian bombings of gay nightclubs and abortion clinics in the United States as proof.

So, let’s settle this: is Islam a more violent religion than other faiths?

http://twitter.com/#!/FreeStateYank/status/507657043751493632 http://twitter.com/#!/SteveSkojec/status/507580807243120640 http://twitter.com/#!/tankerdude01/status/507657075816935424 http://twitter.com/#!/SarahVail1/status/508036431781298176 http://twitter.com/#!/eCSVA/status/508037301038247936 http://twitter.com/#!/ancerrone/status/508038858710069249 http://twitter.com/#!/steverino74/status/507662601837641728 http://twitter.com/#!/ReconTexas/status/508041507807698945 http://twitter.com/#!/FergusFSU/status/508044035760873472

Still, pretty incendiary language from CNN, though?

These People Have Volunteered To Live And Die On Mars

They are on the short list of finalists for the Mars One project.

1. In 2012, Mars One announced plans to colonize Mars. This mini-doc from The Guardian and Stateless Media takes a very personal look at three individuals willing to give up everything to explore life, and ultimately death, on Mars.

Over 200,000 people applied for a seat on the four-person spaceship set to travel to Mars in 2024. There are currently 660 finalists. The mission is a one-way trip, and those who are selected to go will never return to Earth. Meet three of the finalists hoping to make the historic journey, and hear their fascinating stories and very personal reasons for wanting to be a part of this epic adventure.

3. Ryan, a physics student from the UK

“I think the most important thing to do in life is to leave a legacy. A lot of people do that by, say, having a child or having a family. For me, this would be my legacy. To try and find if there’s life on Mars, to inspire a new generation, to lead to the beginnings of the first civilization on another planet. That is my legacy.”

4. Dina, an Iraqi-American computer science graduate

“If I ever made it to Mars, it’s gonna be the same experience as me coming to the United States. Going back is not an option, never. I don’t feel like I need a family to be able to survive and exist.”

The Guardian / Via youtube.com

5. Jeremias, a young doctor from Mozambique

“I think this world is not a good place to live anymore. We have so many disease, we have so many Army conflicts, we have natural disasters, we have inequities. We have so many problems that I believe it is not possible to solve. I would like to see a better world comparing to this one and I think a good way to solve those problems is to start from the beginning.”

6. And what about the loved ones that get left behind?

“One can think he’s committing suicide, but it’s not suicide. Quite the contrary, he goes there because it is God’s mission. It is humanity’s mission.”

The Guardian / Via youtube.com

7. Ryan’s grandfather:

“If it does come to that moment, then I will tell him how much I love him. I will certainly cuddle him, I will kiss him. Then I will tell him to enjoy his life and never, ever forget how much he’s loved.”

The Guardian / Via youtube.com

8. Some might call these volunteers noble, some might say they are crazy, but there is no denying the bravery it takes to step up for a mission into the unknown.

9. Jeremias

“If I die on Mars, that would be great.”

The Guardian / Via youtube.com

10. Dina

“If I die on Mars, that would be an accomplishment.”

The Guardian / Via youtube.com

11. Ryan

“Being able to think and look back and knowing that it mattered what I did – in the end, that makes it worthwhile to me.”

New scapegoat for Ebola (Hint: It begins with ‘N’ and ends with ‘RA’)

http://twitter.com/#!/HunterHSpoon/status/517693324518756353

The Ebola outbreak has already been blamed on “climate change,” and you might be able to guess who’s next in line for scapegoating:

Ebola in the US and according to @CeasefireUSA that means you should be outraged at the #NRA. https://t.co/G0A7Tlf0mp

— CamEdwards (@CamEdwards) October 2, 2014

Really? According to States United to Prevent Gun Violence, yes:

Ebola now in the US. Surgeon General should be leading the way on public health education but NRA stalled nomination. No outrage?

— States United (@CeasefireUSA) October 2, 2014

One way to keep Ebola contained is to get outraged at the NRA? We’ll have to check with the CDC on that one.

So far there isn’t much outrage, but there is plenty of mockery:

@ceasefireusa Ebola's the NRA's fault? Hahahahahaha! Thanks for the belly laught!

— Michael Kent (@MichaelMKent) October 2, 2014

@CeasefireUSA This tweet is a total crock of shit. You Liberals will undercut your own family members if need be. Unbelievable.

— Butch Man (@Browns_Fan1995) October 2, 2014

@CeasefireUSA You shouldn't be smoking that.

— Become The Media (@maxomai) October 2, 2014

@CamEdwards @CeasefireUSA Damn you @NRA I stubbed my toe this morning & it's all your fault!! LMBO #CeasefireUSARmorons

— Kristi (@butterflysecret) October 2, 2014

@CeasefireUSA Ebola is the NRA's fault?! #IDIOT #Gunssavelives
