Boston’s Tom Menino lauded as best mayor of greatest city on earth

http://twitter.com/#!/mayortommenino/status/317372244227674112

Tom Menino has served as Boston’s mayor for nearly two decades, so it’s only natural that news of his retirement after five terms in office would be met with plaudits from the usual suspects. We have our doubts that Boston is indeed the greatest city on earth; Merino’s thuggish claim that “Chick-fil-A doesn’t belong” there suggests there’s plenty of room for improvement. President Obama didn’t hold back on the praise for Menino, though.

Other politicians were quick to gush as well, with Elizabeth Warren declaring Menino “the best mayor in America” (sorry, Cory Booker).

Even New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg was willing to overlook Mayors Against Illegal Guns co-chair Menino’s turning a blind eye to those killer 17 oz. sodas.

The fact that the U.S. Senate will hold a vote next month on the first major gun safely legislation in more than a decade is a testament to Tom’s determined leadership. As his partner in the coalition, I want to thank Mayor Menino for all his extraordinary work in the fight to make our communities – and our country – safer.

Menino might not be running again, but he still has the rest of his current term to fill.

Dana Perino notes a ‘heckuva correction’ regarding Bush’s Iraq war coalition

http://twitter.com/#!/dzielinski/status/514486123285209088

The myth that President Bush “went it alone” against Iraq refuses to die. It took the New York Times 12 days to issue a correction to its Sept. 11 claim that “Unlike Mr. Bush in the Iraq war, Mr. Obama has sought to surround the United States with partners.”

Dana Perino provided a shot of the “heckuva” correction, published today.

Heckuva correction. pic.twitter.com/xqgUidR61C

— Dana Perino (@DanaPerino) September 23, 2014

As the National Review points out:

While similar, President Bush’s 2003 Iraq coalition actually dwarfed President Obama’s alliance against the Islamic State – at least in its current iteration.

Bush’s international coalition to depose Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein involved over three dozen nations and tens of thousands of ground troops, including 46,000 from the United Kingdom, 2,000 from Australia, and thousands from Poland, Ukraine, South Korea, the Netherlands, and Georgia. Countries from Europe, East Asia, and Latin America all participated.

@DanaPerino just a tiny one…….

Joan Walsh mocks Kate Middleton’s ‘morning sickness,’ makes pope jokes

http://twitter.com/#!/joanwalsh/status/275641844338130944

Salon’s Joan Walsh is letting her hateful bitterness show once again. As Twitchy reported, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are expecting a baby. This is cause for congratulations from sane people.

Kate Middleton is suffering from hyperemesis gravidarum, which can be very serious. Or, as Joan Walsh calls it “morning sickness.” Whatever! Ms. Walsh took this news as an opportunity to bash.

RT @joeheim: Difference between you and royalty: Kate Middleton has morning sickness so….she’s in the hospital. bbc.co.uk/news/uk-205863…

— Joan Walsh (@joanwalsh) December 3, 2012

Twitter users swiftly let the willfully ignorant Walsh know a little something about this “morning sickness.”

.@joeheim Um, Joe? Extreme morning sickness can lead to dehydration, renal failure and miscarriage. pregnancy.about.com/cs/morningsick…

— Marta Evry (@venice4change) December 3, 2012

@joeheim @joanwalsh No worries, just another case of liberals jumping on a storyto support their narrative without facts #TusconShootings

— Bryan Coughlin (@BPCoughlin) December 3, 2012

@joanwalsh She didn’t have just morning sickness; hyperemesis is a real thing, and it’s scary (I was hospitalized for it too).

— Ami Sullivan (@Imanitsud) December 3, 2012

@joanwalsh It depends on the degree. I had NO morning sickness. Friend had to be hospitalized for it, and lost her second baby because of it

— Fra sku (@Frasku) December 3, 2012

@joanwalsh It’s not mocking royalty that’s a problem. It’s assuming she’s not really sick. Severe morning sickness can be dangerous.

— Heather (@HMcDEsq) December 3, 2012

Bingo. What about common decency, Ms. Walsh?

. @joanwalsh you don’t need to be deferential to royalty. I’m not. I am, however, sympathetic to other women’s physical ills.

— Laura Hume (@LeftyRosie) December 3, 2012

Stop scolding her! By scolding, she means pointing out her own actions.

Oooh, Twitter is for scolding! I was not mocking morning sickness, either. Just the thought that some get more support than others.

— Joan Walsh (@joanwalsh) December 3, 2012

She then doubles down on the fail by attempting to bash the pope.

Ultimate proof that Twitter is for scolding: Here comes the Pope!

— Joan Walsh (@joanwalsh) December 3, 2012

Oh, and I’m Catholic, so spare me the charges of Catholic-bashing. Back to work!

— Joan Walsh (@joanwalsh) December 3, 2012

Some of her best friends are popes, rubes!

Twitter calls her out on this, too.

@joanwalsh You know Joan, your version of being a Catholic is probably the same as Pelosi and Biden; both heretics and CINOs.

— William (@Political_Moose) December 3, 2012

Allegedly… RT @joanwalsh Oh, and I’m Catholic, so spare me the charges of Catholic-bashing. Back to work!

— Moira Fitzgerald (@Moira1987) December 3, 2012

This is the Greatest and Best Argument in the World. Tribute. MT @joanwalsh: I’m Catholic, so spare me the charges of Catholic-bashing.

— Daniel Foster (@DanFosterNRO) December 3, 2012

Heh.

Hey, Joan, is this what you call “scolding” of the pope? We call it vicious hate. But, then, you don’t really know the difference do you?

Not being able to get married sucks. But it’s just one of many conversations.

We asked attendees at Sydney’s annual Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Fair Day what LGBT issues meant the most to them, with one catch: they couldn’t answer marriage equality. These are the topics people wished got more attention.

1. Queer youth homelessness.
