Michael Moore: if you don’t support unions, you don’t deserve electricity

http://twitter.com/#!/MMFlint/status/222213065905672192

This morning, left-wing documentary maker Michael Moore told his Twitter followers that people who criticize unions don’t deserve electricity. He linked to an article posted on his website, michaelmoore.com, blaming this week’s Washington D.C.-area power outages on “union busting.”

Moore apparently is under the impression that giving utility workers gold-plated health and retirement plans is the key to preventing electricity outages.

Meanwhile, in New York, there’s this news: “A Con Edison worker was accused Saturday of reporting a phony gas leak in Yonkers, the latest in a string of suspicious actions in the wake of a labor contract battle.”

And this:

Con Edison … reported that an arrow and two bullets struck electrical wires in Armonk on Wednesday and Thursday. North Castle police confirmed they are investigating the two cases of equipment vandalism in Armonk.

“Obviously, the question comes up, ‘Do we think it’s the union doing that?’ ” Con Edison spokesman Allan Drury asked the Journal News/LoHud.com on Saturday. “The answer: We’re not alleging that any individual is responsible for the arrow or the bullets. We’re seeking the public’s help to prevent further vandalism.”

Drury also said the union has been engaged in aggressive protests over the utility’s decision July 1 to lock out about 8,500 union members after contract talks collapsed with the Utility Workers Union of America Local 1-2.

He said someone fired the arrow at a wire in the vicinity of Baldwin and Bedford roads at 2 a.m. on the Fourth of July, cutting service to 1,200 customers for two hours. The next day, at 3 p.m., two bullets struck a wire on Old Post Road, just south of Route 22, leaving about 2,000 people temporarily without power, he said. He shared a picture of a wire with two pock marks that he says were caused by bullets.
