The Denver Post today reports that Colorado state Sen. Evie Hudak apologized to rape victim Amanda Collins in private for remarks she made at a hearing on Colorado’s campus gun ban last night. After Collins recounted her sexual assault at gunpoint in a campus “safe zone,” Hudak told her that “chances are that if you would have had a gun, then he would have been able to get that from you and possibly use it against you.”
CO State @senhudak says by disarming women, making rape easier, she is “…looking out for their best interest.” is.gd/wJUvlQ

Hudak said that while she feels terrible for what Collins and other rape victims have experienced, “I am actually really looking out for their best interest.” For her part, Collins told the Denver Post that she didn’t know “how genuine” Hudak’s apology was, and Ace of Spades and others didn’t find Sen. Hudak’s argument convincing either.
.@senhudak are you claiming that an unarmed rapist, who must attack HTH, has the advantage vs. a capable woman with a ranged weapon?
— DepressiveBlogger69 (@AceofSpadesHQ) March 5, 2013
.@senhudak do you understand how you sound? Not just stupid, but willfully stupid; the stupidity of the rabid cleric trained to chant dogma
— DepressiveBlogger69 (@AceofSpadesHQ) March 5, 2013
.@senhudak without using google, what would you guess the chief advantage of a ranged weapon is?
— DepressiveBlogger69 (@AceofSpadesHQ) March 6, 2013
.@senhudak again, without google, what do you think the advantage of a non-strength-using weapon would be for people of lower strength?
— DepressiveBlogger69 (@AceofSpadesHQ) March 6, 2013
.@senhudak do you believe Ms. Collins’ rapist was so focused on HER in particular he would have braved a bullet in the face to rape her?
— DepressiveBlogger69 (@AceofSpadesHQ) March 6, 2013
.@senhudak do you believe rapists and muggers are that victim-specific? Or do your statistics tell you they are more opportunistic?
— DepressiveBlogger69 (@AceofSpadesHQ) March 6, 2013
.@senhudak do you think female police officers should be disarmed, given that a stronger male attacker will just take their guns from them?
— DepressiveBlogger69 (@AceofSpadesHQ) March 6, 2013
.@senhudak will you join me in calling for the disarmament of female police officers, so that perps can’t take their guns and harm them?
— DepressiveBlogger69 (@AceofSpadesHQ) March 6, 2013
.@senhudak if a Taekwondo trained woman citizen STILL isn’t capable of carrying a gun, then neither are female police officers.
— DepressiveBlogger69 (@AceofSpadesHQ) March 6, 2013
.@comradearthur @senhudak What about our own female fighter pilots?how do we know rapists won’t just take their fighters from them?
— DepressiveBlogger69 (@AceofSpadesHQ) March 6, 2013
@comradearthur @aceofspadeshq @senhudak I read how Buffalo Bill would take Annie Oakley’s guns away at the start of every Wild West Show
— Michael Blum (@MichaelBlum3) March 6, 2013
.@senhudak can you conceive of any women not employed by the state who are capable of safely handling a weapon?
— DepressiveBlogger69 (@AceofSpadesHQ) March 6, 2013
.@senhudak Are your female constituents also willing to get raped rather than defend themselves, or is it just you? @aceofspadeshq
— ChampionCapua (@ChampionCapua) March 6, 2013
Seems @senhudak would prefer that all of these people be disarmed: is.gd/FnW25A because they couldn’t possibly defend themselves.

Denver University constitutional law professor Dave Kopel wasn’t buying the “best interest” line either and took Hudak to school.

Colo.Sen.Hudak tells rape victim that a rapist would just take her gun. Actually, this happens less than 1%, per NatlCrimVictimSurvey.
