Oakland, Calif., isn’t entirely responsible for the “mostly” disclaimer that’s required when discussing the “mostly peaceful” protests that swept the nation in the wake of the George Zimmerman verdict. Still, plenty were scratching their heads earlier this week wondering how breaking the windows of Men’s Wearhouse and storming Walmart was supposed to honor the memory of Trayvon Martin.
Today was set aside for vigils in nearly 100 cities across the nation, and by most accounts, crowds were respectful — except in Oakland, where Occupiers showed up to heckle Oakland Mayor Jean Quan.
