Description

Item for auction is a 0.49g fragment of the recent Aiquile meteorite fall that occurred on November 20, 2016, in Bolivia. A daylight fireball entered the atmosphere over the Andes Mountains near Aiquile, Bolivia on November 20, 2016. The bolide spiraled toward Earth, and began to break up as it entered the lower atmosphere, producing four distinct sonic booms that roared down the canyons below. Local Quechua Indians were terrified as they witnessed the fireball travel across the sky in a fraction of a second, leaving a brief persistent train in its wake. The Quechua soon began to find strange black rocks scattered throughout the red dirt hills, in and amongst their villages within the canyons. NOTE: This meteorite appears to be brecciated H chondrite, with some unequilibrated phases. This meteorite could possibly have an H3-5 petrology, but only scientific analysis will reveal its class. This meteorite comes in a quality labeled display box for protection and years of viewing pleasure, along with a Big Kahuna Meteorites Certificate of Authenticity. Scale cube in photo is 1cm on each side, and not included in sale. Big Kahuna combines shipping, and addresses must be in the English language, to facilitate customs input at US Postal Service. Non-English addresses cannot be shipped, and may incur additional fees for handling. We no longer ship to China or Italy.
