Description
THIS IS A SMALL AND UNUSUAL METEORITE AND ONE OF THE FEW SCARCER METEORITES IDENTIFIED IN THE COLLECTION WE ACQUIRED. THIS IS A ONE GRAM METEORITE FROM THE VERY RECENT (2006) FALL IN THE COUNTRY OF MAURITANIA IN NORTHWEST AFRICA, FORMERLY PART OF FRENCH WEST AFRICA. THE COUNTRY ONLY BECAME AN INDEPENDENT NATION IN 1960.
AS YOU CAN SEE IN THE PHOTOS THE COLOR AND TEXTURE OF THE METEORITE VARIES. I BELIEVE THE DARKER SIDE IS THE ORIGINAL OUTER CRUST FROM THE SMALL STONE AND THE SPECKLED SIDE WAS THE INTERIOR WHEN THE STONE WAS SLICED. BASED ON ITS APPEARANCE AND SIZE IF IT WAS SLICED, IT WAS ONLY INTO A VERY SMALL NUMBER OF PIECES AND THE ONE DARKER SIDE WOULD BE THE UNCUT EXTERIOR.
AT LESS THAN AN INCH LONG AND A GRAM IN WEIGH IT STILL DISPLAYS WELL AS SHOWN.
WE ALWAYS COMBINE SHIPPING AND WE ONLY SHIP TO THE US. THANKS FOR LOOKING.
