This Group In Florida Is Rethinking Homelessness. It Can Truly Happen To Anyone.

Florida has one of the largest homeless populations in the United States. According to the 2013 Annual Homeless Assessment Report from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, Florida has an estimated 47,862 homeless individuals. That’s about eight percent of the total U.S. homeless population. Perhaps because of this, Florida is also considered to be the most dangerous state in the country to be homeless according to the National Coalition for the Homeless. Compared to the next most dangerous state, California, Florida had double the number of homeless hate crimes in 2012. This makes the work of nonprofit Impact Homelessness all the more important and difficult. Their latest campaign “Rethink Homelessness” takes aim at harmful stereotypes and tries to humanize those without stable shelter. Their message is to remind viewers that homelessness can happen to anyone. Check out some of the incredible videos from Impact Homelessness.
