Monitor: ISIS Released 19 Christians From Captivity

The Assyrians were released after an order from an ISIS Sharia court.

ISIS militants released 19 Assyrian Christans from captivity on Sunday, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

The British-based watchdog group was told by an Assyrian commander those released included two women.

The group was said to be from Tal Koran village near Tel Tamer in Syria’s northeast.

The group was released on the orders of an ISIS Sharia court, according to the observatory group.

In recent days, ISIS is understood to have been conducting raids on Assyrian villages that have long been home to Syria’s ancient Christian minority.


Last week, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said 220 people had been abducted from from 10 villages in Hasaka province.

A video posted on Facebook by an Assyrian-linked Swedish media group purported to show celebrations as the group was released.
