French firefighters and police officers secure Orly airport outside Paris on Saturday after the shooting of a man by French protection forces. The attacker had been recognized to French authorities, and his house have been looked after assaults in 2015.

French officials identified the attacker as a 39-year-old man-born in France, whose home had been searched within the aftermath of attacks in Paris in 2015.

A still from a film recently digitized by a team at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. The film shows a 1958 explosion at Bikini Atoll in the Marshall Islands.

The U.S. conducted hundreds of atmospheric nuclear tests between 1945 and 1962 — and filmed them. A project to digitize those films has changed the analysis of the nuclear explosions themselves.
