Fake, but accurate? ‘Newsroom’ star calls Tea Party ‘lunatic fringe’

http://twitter.com/#!/MailOnline/status/216962567812284416

The reviews are in for “The Newsroom,” Aaron Sorkin’s new HBO series which premiered last night. “The Newsroom” follows jaded journalists reinvigorated by a desire to put aside spin and just tell the truth, damn it — well, Sorkin’s truth, at least.

The show begins with superstar news anchor Will McAvoy telling a roomful of journalism students that America is not the greatest country in the world. The students are shocked — shocked — to hear this, as they’ve never heard any different from a lifetime of cable news consumption. It seems even real-life student activists picked up a “get off my lawn” vibe from Sorkin.

BREAKING: Aaron Sorkin, 51, thinks young people are stupid and America used to be awesome. #Newsroom

— Angus Johnston (@studentactivism) June 25, 2012

More shocking perhaps than McAvoy’s diatribe is the real-life rant of star Emily Mortimer, a Brit who tells Salon of her frustration that American TV news has too long tried to cover both sides of every issue. American journalists “act like there’s just two definite sides to every discussion,” she observes. “This Tea Party is presented on the television as the viable alternative instead of like a lunatic fringe.”

Not surprisingly, her comments have hit a nerve with some.

https://twitter.com/1_Eagle/status/217217236371386368

“The Newsroom” promises to tackle (almost) contemporary issues, kindly showing the world how the BP oil spill should have been handled.

The Newsroom taught us all tonight that you can make good, honest, TV news as long as you have two years of hindsight.

— Susan Burke (@ThatSusanBurke) June 25, 2012

Perhaps most frightening (or promising, depending on your politics) is the idea that “The Newsroom” could serve as this generation’s “All the President’s Men”: a fictional account of news reporting which inspires young idealists to pursue a field whose former star sunk out of sight clinging to the “fake but accurate” anchor.

BREAKING: TV media might just have it's West Wing. #Newsroom could be good enough to inspire a new generation of journalists. We'll see.

— Paul (PJ) Rieckhoff (@PaulRieckhoff) June 25, 2012

Nonetheless, Sorkin seems to have a hit on his hands. But just what is Sorkin’s secret to hooking viewers?

.@ShawnRyanTV Aaron Sorkin is for people who liked being told they're smart for agreeing with him. Plus, rarely even truth-adjacent. So, no.

— Susan (@shoshido) June 25, 2012

Could it be?

NYPD on lookout for man who touched 11 year-old girl

http://twitter.com/#!/eyewitnessnyc/status/180420489888546816

The man approached the girl in a Dunkin Donuts, where he forcibly touched her before leaving the shop. He was captured on video, and his picture is being shown around the neighborhood.

His face is distinctive. His size too should be unmistakable.

“He’s a heavy set individual. Perhaps as much as 400 pounds,” NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly said.

Stephanie Cutter calls Chinese state-run media propaganda a ‘must read’

http://twitter.com/#!/ScottPaulAAM/status/246612366870069248

Oh, yes, they are. Lying liar who lies, Obama deputy campaign manager Stephanie Cutter, tweeted out a Reuters article quoting the state-run news propaganda agency of the Chinese Communist Party as a “must read.”

Must read:China's Xinhua slams Romney for making his money off Chinese companies before running for pres. #hypocrisy http://t.co/ZkHe8pu7

— Stephanie Cutter (@stefcutter) September 14, 2012

Propaganda is now a must-read. To be fair, Cutter likely finds a kinship there; Everything out of her mouth is a lie.

Citizens swiftly take Ms. Cutter to the woodshed. Is she that full of idiocy or that full of lies? Perhaps we should embrace the power of “and.”

Meanwhile, Team Obama is literally tweeting out Chinese propaganda to attack Romney. https://t.co/9aZtJdSe Oh, @StefCutter. #tcot

— Jacob Hawkins (@SouthernPol) September 14, 2012

— Ollie (@texasollie) September 14, 2012

Heh.

Then she tried to deflect. Deflect like the wind! As only a pathological liar can, of course.

.@StefCutter Chinese propaganda backed spin doesn’t change Obama’s record of letting jobs go to China & doing nothing to stop their cheating

— Reince Priebus (@Reince) September 14, 2012

.@Reince What's offensive is that Mitt thinks voters will believe he'll be tough on China -he's personally profiting of China as we speak.

#GiulianaRancic Flipped Off The Academy For #JoanRivers

Rivers’ former co-stars on E!’s Fashion Police expressed their anger during the show’s Oscars special on Monday night.

1. Many people have been outraged over the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences leaving Joan Rivers out of the “In Memoriam” montage during the Oscars on Sunday.

Joan Rivers filming Fashion Police on July 10, 2014.

2. And during Monday’s Oscars edition of Fashion Police, a show Rivers helmed until her death in September, her former co-star Giuliana Rancic shared her thoughts on the situation.

E!

Her “fuck you” and middle fingers were bleeped and blurred, but viewers could still clearly make out what she was saying and doing.

“Let’s all blame [The Academy]. Lets’ blame them for everything,” Rancic continued. “Amen,” Kelly Osbourne added.

Then, Rivers’ successor Kathy Griffin, said, “Can we kind of take a moment with that because when I was watching that I thought, Meryl Steep is out there and she kept saying like, ‘People who push the boundaries and stuff.’ So when they left Joan out of that, I thought it was really a miss. And she was in feature films and I thought that was an odd miss. But it’s almost like even posthumously, she’s still a rebel.”

Brad Goreski, Osbourne, and Rancic all clapped in agreement.

BuzzFeed News’ request for comment from E! and Rancic were not immediately returned.

Children (And Adults), Avert Your Eyes! These Playgrounds Are The Worst.

Playgrounds are where kids can finally go outside and play without restriction. The sandbox, the swing set, and everything else found at playgrounds allow for kids to get exercise and learn to socialize.

That’s why the last thing you’d expect to see are some creepy (and often crude) fixtures at a playground. If kids are playing here, well…don’t let them.

1.) Does he need a bra?

2.) Well, he’s pretty happy with himself.

3.) Is he surprised, or happy to see me?

4.) Three headed…umm…ok.

5.) Wait is he a…CANNIBAL!?

6.) Hmm…there’s something wrong here.

7.) Because clowns weren’t creepy enough.

8.) I hope he wiped.

9.) In what universe is this a good idea?

10.) No, just no!

11.) The bear finally caught Goldilocks.

12.) Not the kind of contest you want to win.

13.) Umm, why?

14.) Nightmare time.

15.) This entrance is anything but…

16.) Umm, ok.

17.) Think the architect had to use the restroom?

18.) Revenge for Planet of the Apes?

19.) Wait, only one bosom?

(via BuzzFeed)

Many of these playgrounds can be found in Russia. Regardless of their locations, these designers had no idea what they were doing wrong or they’re just sick! Stay away, children!

Drug-related shooting near Busch Stadium sparks talk of two St. Louises

http://twitter.com/#!/BrittanyNoble/status/519260855276273664

KMOV reporter Brittany Noble-Jones says she hasn’t made up her mind whether she’ll be heading to Busch Stadium for tonight’s Dodgers/Cardinals game, following a shooting just blocks from the stadium today that killed two and injured one.

The shooting in STL is just 2 blocks from Ballpark Village/Busch Stadium, which hosts a ballgame at 8pm tonight. Yay!

— Terry Blastenbrei (@elSicomoro) October 6, 2014

St. Louis alderman Antonio French, who has made political hay out of the unrest in Ferguson, tried to paint the picture of “two St. Louises” colliding, referring to both the apparently drug-related shooting and Saturday night’s “Requiem for Michael Brown” operatic “disruption” at the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra.

Whether at the symphony or a baseball game, it's becoming harder for one St. Louis to continue to ignore the other. pic.twitter.com/rKwEQDKNfY

@AntonioFrench are you equating a drug deal shooting to civil disobedience? Shame on you. Fix your house first!

— MomNeedsWine (@lnmstl) October 6, 2014

@AntonioFrench If you're labeling the middle of downtown, in broad daylight, as the "other" St. Louis, we have other issues.

"A house divided against itself cannot stand." – Abraham Lincoln St. Louis, it's not enough that some live well. All communities matter.
