No one was expecting millions to attend a candlelight vigil for Trayvon Martin in New York City’s Union Square tonight, but the gathering of hundreds did get a celebrity boost from “Django Unchained” star Jamie Foxx.

I have bad premonition that the #NYPD will be beating up people in #TrayvonMartin vigil. Doing so, will unleash more righteous anger. Don’t.

Very somber march, I was expecting rage, but this is very appropriate too. #millionhoodies #TrayvonMartin

Other celebs and media personalities who didn’t attend in person tweeted their support, although as with Randi Weingarten, what had begun as an argument about racial profiling took on elements of gun control.

#Trayvon Martin. How should we remember him? Let’s demand an end to racial profiling and fight for common sense gun safety laws and reform.
