Election result ‘confusion and anxiety’ felt across the US

There are plenty of Trump supporters on the ground in Pennsylvania who “simply are not accepting” Joe Biden’s apparent electoral victory, according to Sky News political reporter Annelise Nielsen. Ms Nielsen is on the ground in Lancaster, Pennsylvania where she has spoken to supporters of both the president and the president-elect. President-elect Joe Biden was declared the winner of the 2020 Presidential Election on Saturday (local time) after The Associated Press called the state of Pennsylvania and its 20 Electoral College votes for the former vice-president. President Trump, though, has declared the result invalid and has accused his opponents of stealing the election. Trump supporters have vehemently expressed they will wait until the campaign’s ongoing legal pursuits end until they accept the result, while Mr Biden’s followers are “not really interested”. “Joe Biden supporters are still celebrating, they’re very happy about this result,” Ms Nielsen said. “They say there’s no way Donald Trump can come back”. Across the country there is still a great deal of confusion around the result, especially amid the ongoing legal battles. Pennsylvania will remain a “place to watch with how this all pans out” over the next few weeks, Ms Nielsen said.
