As Twitchy reported, Senator Chuck Grassley of Iowa stirred up a small-scale controversy Thursday when he tweeted that he’d hit a deer with his car. Grassley said he assumed the deer was killed, but a concerned few wanted to know for sure. We’ll give Grassley credit for addressing his constituents, but it seems the senator has changed his story.

Two days after the incident, Grassley is claiming that his Prius was “attacked” by a “dear.” These details just don’t add up. Are we getting into Kennedy territory here?

Chuck Grassley drives a prius?!?!

Woah woah woah – Grassley was in a Prius?!

@delrayser The big revelation to me is that Charles Grassley tools around in a Prius.

@jryanlaw I’m leery of both Grassley claims.A member of the GOP in a Prius?Attack deer?Sounds like a cover-up.

— MishaRN (@MishaRN) October 27, 2012

If chuck grassley was a real republican he would have brought the deer home and eaten it, like my parents did in the old days

— Mac Garry (@mac_garry) October 27, 2012

That deer attacked Grassley’s car like in a bullfight: Stamped the ground, lowered its head, snorted and charged!!

— Cookiejava (@cookiejava) October 27, 2012

So come on down to Chuck Grassley’s Venison Splatter Hut, where the deer is always assumed dead and kids eat free! #AssumeDeerDead

— Eric Schroeck (@ericschroeck) October 27, 2012

The dead deer is contesting the newest accusation.

I DIDN’T ATTACK MT.@chuckgrassleyFollowers asked about condition of deer that attacked our Prius didn’t hv flashlight to check on critter

— Grassley’s dead deer (@GrassleyDeer) October 27, 2012

Did we say dead deer?

Flashlight the least of your concerns. RT @chuckgrassley Followers concerned about condition of dear.I didn’t hv a flashlight to check.
