SNS is always active\r\nat the base level (called sympathetic tone) and\r\nbecomes more active in stressful situations. The\r\n“flight or fight” response occurs from here. Anxiety\r\ndoesn\u2019t need an outside influence to occur. Anxiety is\r\noften based on irrational or illogical fears.\r\n\r\nPanic is related to the “fight or flight” mechanism.\r\nIt\u2019s a reaction brought on by outside stimulus and is\r\na product of the sympathetic nervous system. Panic in\r\ngeneral is a sudden fear that can dominate or replace\r\nour thinking. Panic usually occurs in a situation that\r\nis perceived to be health or life-threatening. Panic\r\nis an anxiety state we\u2019re thinking about.\r\n\r\nStress is a psychosocial reaction. It\u2019s influenced by\r\nthe way a person filters nonthreatening external\r\nevents. The filtering is based on the person\u2019s\r\nassumptions, ideas, and expectations. These\r\nassumptions, ideas, and expectations can be referred to\r\nas social constructionism.\r\n\r\nPanic and stress both play important roles in the\r\nnatural survival instinct. The preparations for fight\r\nor flight are the body\u2019s defense mechanisms. Preparing\r\nfor whichever course of action is decided upon to\r\npreserve life, health, or whatever is in danger.\r\n\r\nAnxiety doesn\u2019t always stem from an actual need for\r\nfear or defensive action. Escaping situations that\r\nmake us anxious may bring relief, but these feelings\r\nare intensified when we face similar situations. This\r\nencourages us to escape the situation again instead of\r\nworking through the anxiety.\r\n\r\n
