‘Rep. Mia Love’: With Utah Dem retiring, does Tea Party favorite have a shot?; Updated

http://twitter.com/#!/NolteNC/status/413029673098960896

Well, it’s certainly possible. Rep. Jim Matheson, a Utah Democrat, announced that he will not seek re-election. Which would leave a plum opportunity for Tea Party favorite Mia Love to take his place:

While Love isn’t yet a lock:

She’s got a fighting chance:

And many conservatives are thrilled at the prospect of a Rep. Mia Love:

Sen. Joe Manchin evolves on gun rights in wake of Newtown shooting

http://twitter.com/#!/Sen_JoeManchin/status/280656790914473984

While many are calling for an outright ban on all guns in the wake of last week’s massacre in Newtown, Conn., many more are asking only for a national “conversation” on the Second Amendment. Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) is adding his voice to that second group, much to the surprise of those who remember his as a staunch pro-gun politician.

@sen_joemanchin Remember this, Senator? youtu.be/xIJORBRpOPM

— David Pleasant (@dpleasant) December 17, 2012

Many pointed to Manchin’s “A” rating from the NRA as proof that the organization needed to follow suit and evolve in its views. (Sen. Majority Leader Harry Reid is also endorsed by the NRA and has himself earned a “B.”)

Thank you @sen_joemanchin, a life-long NRA member, for realizing that it is “time to act.” #GunControlNow

— Michael Skolnik (@MichaelSkolnik) December 17, 2012

Good on @sen_joemanchin. This is a gutsy move for the senator from WV. ow.ly/g9VVn

— Justin McElroy (@JustinMcElroy) December 17, 2012

Pro-gun commentator Joe Scarborough & pro-gun Senator Joe Manchin come out in support of gun control. how long till their fans realize it?

— Larry Richman (@larry411) December 17, 2012

.@sen_joemanchin was the only Democratic Senator to take money from the NRA in 2012. Now he switched sides.

— Zach Green (@140elect) December 17, 2012

Haven’t seen any stories yet a/b how Harry Reid — endorsed by NRA & in a pro-gun state — must be conflicted on Dems’ gun controls efforts.

— Ellen Carmichael (@ellencarmichael) December 17, 2012

It’s the sort of move that many would call a “flip-flop” under less tragic circumstances.

Sounds like the people who say “never trust a Democrat who claims to be pro gun,” are right @sen_joemanchin

— Sean D Sorrentino (@sdsorrentino) December 17, 2012

It is a huge disappointment to see @sen_joemanchin support a gun ban and claim the Second Amendment is only about hunting.

— Sebastian (@SebastianSNBQ) December 17, 2012

West Virginia Democrat Senator Joe Manchin ran false campaign ads, shooting a rifle, claiming he supports 2nd Amendment, wants to ban guns.

— Mike Robbins-Backup (@MikeRobbinsUSA2) December 17, 2012

Does anyone know if it was an “assault weapon” that @sen_joemanchin used in his ad that he shot through the cap and trade bill? #GunControl

— Dan O’Brien (D) (@danobrien1972) December 17, 2012

We weren’t aware there was ever a ban on gun “dialogue,” but if there was, Manchin’s been making up for lost time, appearing with Fox’s Joe Scarborough, NBC’s Andrea Mitchell and others to announce his conversion.

Pro-gun Sen. Joe Manchin (@sen_joemanchin) joined us today to talk about gun legislation. Here is our discussion: nbcnews.to/TqZ8Ap

— Morning Joe (@Morning_Joe) December 17, 2012

NRA member @sen_joemanchin on the #newtown shooting says “It changed me” #mitchellreports

— Andrea Mitchell (@mitchellreports) December 17, 2012

Manchin tweeted that “everything” needs to be on the table in this conversation.

Everything needs to be on the table, and I ask all my colleagues to sit down to talk about firearms, mental health and our culture

— Senator Joe Manchin (@Sen_JoeManchin) December 17, 2012

Sitting down on Capitol Hill and talking about our “culture” seems no more specific than the president’s call for “meaningful action.” In a matter of a weekend, though, vague statements like those are being hailed as the “strongest call for gun policy change in a generation,” and Manchin is being praised for standing up to the increasingly demonized NRA.

So proud of my @sen_joemanchin for bravely speaking up about #GunControl … Thanks for being a voice of reason in the #chaos! Proud of YOU!

— Erin Iafelice (@ErinIafelice) December 17, 2012

Thank you Senator Joe Manchin for stepping up.I don’t know anyone that hunts with an assault rifle either.#controlhighcapacityshooting

— kim merryman (@kimluvzlife51) December 17, 2012

@sen_joemanchin is all over @cnn today and I could not be more proud ! I support you Joe for stand up for what you believe in ! #wvyoungdem

Amazing coincidence Manchin JUST got elected to a full six year term…

Lions head coach speaks out on busted players

http://twitter.com/#!/AnwarRichardson/status/207510606683701248

Everyone knows how quickly Jim Schwartz can lose his cool.

While his reputation may soon be reaching John Tortorella status, the head coach of the Detroit Lions has made a habit of speaking his mind with no filter on his words.

So how do you think he felt when he found out two of his young, up-and-coming players had run-ins with the law not too long ago?

#Lions Jim Schwartz on Nick Fairley & team conduct issues: 'I’m a lot of things – concerned, angry … also it's disappointing …'

— Paula Pasche (@paulapasche) May 29, 2012

Nick Fairley and Titus Young haven’t gotten off to the best of starts in their second years in Detroit, and Lions fans are hoping that this isn’t a recurrent theme.

But some people believe that these actions are in reflection to Schwartz’s personality and coaching style.

@ProFootballTalk Is Jim Schwartz ever NOT angry and disappointed? I wonder where his players get it from…

— Chris Hollenback (@chollenback) May 29, 2012

He should chase them down and scream at them. RT @ProFootballTalk: Jim Schwartz is angry with Lions' off-field problems http://t.co/7jSMnW9I

— The Packer Ranter (@PackerRanter) May 29, 2012

@ProFootballTalk Jim Schwartz doesn't know what real anger is.

#Lions coach Jim Schwartz said he spoke with Nick Fairley this morning and addressed it with the team #NFL

— Anwar Richardson (@AnwarRichardson) May 29, 2012

Well, at least we hope for his sake, that Fairley got the message.

Anne Rice falls for satire, blasts Ann Romney for ‘irresponsible extremism’

http://twitter.com/#!/AnneRiceAuthor/status/238670240098156544

Uh oh. What did that “shameful and irresponsible extremist” Ann Romney do to get author Anne Rice all worked up?

The Free Wood Post “reports” that Mrs. Romney told a group called “Moms for Mitt”:

Why should women be paid equal to men? Men have been in the working world a lot longer and deserve to be paid at a higher rate. Heck, I’m a working mom and I’m not paid a dime. I depend on my husband to provide for me and my family, as should most women… and if a woman does work, she should be happy just to be out there in the working world and quit complaining that she’s not making as much as her male counterparts. I mean really, all this wanting to be equal nonsense is going to be detrimental to the future of women everywhere.

Evidently, satire is hard. And so is reading the Free Wood Post’s disclaimer:

All news articles contained within FreeWoodPost.com are fiction, and presumably fake news.

A few of Rice’s followers alerted her that a site with the tag line “News that’s almost reliable” and categories like “sorta true” and “almost news” might not be reporting the actual news.

@AnneRiceAuthor how's about you research things before posting for the blind followers? http://t.co/vkE7YT7l

— Michael Voit (@Docvoit) August 23, 2012

@AnneRiceAuthor I think this was debunked.

— Jill (@Blackbird374) August 23, 2012

@AnneRiceAuthor it's a satire Anne. I thought it was real too. lol

— Becky Donnelly (@beckyjo413) August 23, 2012

Rice owned up to falling for the hit-you-over-the-head-obvious satire, but stopped short of admitting to a “shameful and irresponsible” tweet.

Sorry about that last post, guys. I did not know the free wood post website was satirical. I got caught there.

— Anne Rice (@AnneRiceAuthor) August 23, 2012

Bless her heart. Should we let her know that “gullible” isn’t in the dictionary?
