Eek: Kansas City Chiefs tweet ‘Panther crunch’ photo in wake of shooting

http://twitter.com/#!/Klarity_/status/274936816526831616

Earlier today, linebacker Jovan Belcher of the Kansas City Chiefs reportedly shot his girlfriend before committing suicide. At 1:00 p.m. ET, the team’s Twitter account sent out this tweet:

chiefs-tweet

The Chiefs are still scheduled to play the Panthers tomorrow.

Here’s the “Photo of the Day” that accompanied the tweet:

Who felt it was a good time in KC to tweet ANYTHING!? RT @kcchiefs Photo of the Day – PANTHER CRUNCH – ow.ly/i/1b9fd

— Marcel Picard (@marcelpicard) December 1, 2012

Owly Images

The tweet was quickly and quietly deleted. Was it a scheduled tweet?

Scheduled auto tweet? RT @kcchiefs: Photo of the Day – PANTHER CRUNCH – ow.ly/i/1b9fd More Photos – ow.ly/fEuQU

— Steve Giglio (@stevegiglio) December 1, 2012

If so, hopefully the Chiefs’ social media team has scheduled tweets turned off now. Although the Chiefs clearly have today’s tragedy occupying their minds right now, many fans were appalled.

Not a good look for the @kcchiefs account with their photo tweet. It’s probably scheduled and a lot going on, but still not a good look.

— David Lesky (@DBLesky) December 1, 2012

.@kcchiefs probably best if you guys .didn’t tweet. Looks really bad

— Adam Frecks (@AFFrecks) December 1, 2012

@kcchiefs do you really think that’s appropriate right now?

— syrup (@syrup46892544) December 1, 2012

@kcchiefs how can you tweet photos promoting tomorrow’s game right now? That’s pathetic. Whoever runs your Twitter account should be fired.

— Colby Higgins (@Colby_Higgins) December 1, 2012

@kcchiefs seriously? Horrific Tragedy Today and you send this out.Take a break. Coming from a family that has season tickets since 1968!

Bad taste tweet of the day: RT @kcchiefs: Photo of the Day – PANTHER CRUNCH – ow.ly/i/1b9fd More Photos – ow.ly/fEuQU

Update:

While immediate reaction was not very forgiving, some Twitter users are a lot more understanding.

@twitchyteam I think it’s terribly unfair to castigate #Chiefs for tweets they likely created & scheduled to auto-tweet before tragedy

— Seculuminesce (@L_Allen_) December 1, 2012

@twitchyteam I’m sure it was a scheduled tweet, and I’m sure twitter was the LAST thing on their minds today. @kcchiefs deserve a pass here.

What civil unrest? Kanye West and Kim Kardashian reportedly planning to wed in Egypt

http://twitter.com/#!/breaktimovement/status/353859743497977856

Yes, Kanye West and Kim Kardashian are reportedly looking to getting married in Egypt. That’s so much more important than all of the other news coming out of that country.

#Occupy would like you to sign their petition

http://twitter.com/#!/OccupyWallSt/status/181865605207564288

Sure guys. Right after you sign that petition to investigate #Occupy violence toward the police – and the general public, for that matter.

You can work your way through this. Of course, the list has grown exponentially over these past several months, but that stuff should keep you busy for a while.

Photography Series Captures Male Burlesque Performers All Around The World

Photographer Magnus Arrevad spent five years capturing images of performers all over the world.

Magnus Arrevad

Photographer Magnus Arrevad spent five years traveling all over the world to find male burlesque artists and capture their most vulnerable moments on film. “The application of makeup each night was one in which a mask was taken off, not put on. I wanted to document this process of liberation,” Arrevad told BuzzFeed News of his Boy Story photo series. The project, and soon-to-be book, is a true “study of how we can create ourselves.” The images, all shot on black and white film, were captured in Denmark, England, Germany, and other European cities.

“The book features performers from eighteen countries, living all around the world, in the places you’d probably least expect, but with a sense of community and mutual respect unlike anything I’ve ever known before,” notes the photographer.

3. In his own words, Arrevad explains the inspiration behind the project that took him to the basements of dimly lit venues and back entrances of alley clubs:

Magnus Arrevad

5. “One the key things I explore is the range of male performers and male identities — which are all and always fluid.”

Magnus Arrevad

7. “Any definition is an oversimplification, one of the most beautiful things about this subject for me.”

Magnus Arrevad

9. “I wanted to make a series of images that shared the composition aesthetics of the Old Masters, but took the subterranean world I know and love as its subject.”

Magnus Arrevad

12. “I hope that the audience gets the same feeling that I got seeing and meeting these artists: that one is never alone in the world, no matter how one identifies, sexually or otherwise.”

Magnus Arrevad

14. “However confident many of the performers appear, what they do is scary – I would find it terrifying. They’ve imagined themselves into existence, and they have complete fidelity to their imaginations.”

Magnus Arrevad

16. “This is as close to a Rule For Life as anything I’ve ever learned or discovered.”

Magnus Arrevad

MSNBC declares Rep. Steve Stockman a ‘Twitter troll’

http://twitter.com/#!/R_Dudley66/status/411619017321746432

What bias? We’re aware of that Pew poll that found MSNBC’s programming is 86% liberal opinion and only 14% news. So it’s not surprising that MSNBC would declare Texas Rep. Steve Stockman a Twitter troll. After all, Stockman’s an unapologetic conservative who speaks his mind, so of course to MSNBC that’s considered “trolling.”

http://twitter.com/#!/msnbc/status/411614035223003136

The proof? MSNBC’s Irin Carmon and Nisha Chittal reproduce, under the headline “Rep. Steve Stockman’s most outrageous abortion tweets,” 10 of Stockman’s tweets that comprise “Steve Stockman’s Twitter War on Women.” For example, check out his tweet that demonstrates “His I-know-what’s-best-for-women approach to describing abortion.”

http://twitter.com/#!/StockmanSenate/status/354732743168491520

Yes, despite Wendy Davis’ filibuster, Texas did pass a law that would hold abortion clinics to higher medical standards and require them to have admitting privileges at nearby hospitals in the case of complications. That tweet doesn’t sound like trolling to us.

Well, how about the “time he was dismissive of women who want control of their reproductive decisions.” Behold:

http://twitter.com/#!/ReElectStockman/status/354396175392190467

What a troll, huh? And this guy wants to be a Senator? MSNBC can’t let that happen, can it?

#MarineHeldInMexico Sgt. Andrew Tahmooressi finds an ally in Gary Sinise

http://twitter.com/#!/PistolMangino/status/486520882915864576

We believe it was Fox News’ Greta Van Susteren who initially championed the hashtag #MarineHeldInMexico to draw attention to the plight of Marine Sgt. Andrew Tahmooressi, imprisoned in Mexico since April 1 when he allegedly took a wrong turn into the country. Tahmooressi, who had three registered firearms in his car, was arrested and imprisoned on weapons charges and remains in a Mexican prison.

Actor and long-time supporter of the military Gary Sinise has taken up Tahmooressi’s cause on Twitter.
